Pokemon Legends Z-A is coming this year on October 16, 2025 (and subsequently will be playable on the Nintendo Switch 2 as well). One of the features that players have been looking forward to is the return of Mega Evolution.

This mechanic has been a fan favorite, and it makes sense for it to be brought back in a game set in the Kalos region. After all, Mega Evolution first made its debut in the Kalos region in the games Pokemon X and Y, so it makes sense to bring it back in a new game set there.

While there are 48 Mega Evolutions total in the franchise, not all of them have been confirmed to return in Pokemon Legends Z-A. So, here are all the known Mega Evolutions that will be officially available in the upcoming Legends game. These have been either confirmed through their appearance in official trailers, the official Pokemon website, or in the poster.

Update: There were several new pieces of information revealed about Mega Evolution in Pokemon Legends Z-A that were revealed on the Pokemon Presents on July 22nd, 2025. We have updated this article with that information. Additionally, we included details on Mega Dragonite and rogue Mega Evolutions.

The Pokemon Presents revealed a new Mega Evolution, as Mega Dragonite will be making its debut in this game. Interestingly, Mega Dragonite’s design seems to take a lot of inspiration from its pre-evolution Dragonair. This can be seen in the wings on its head and the pearl on its tail as mentioned in the trailer.

As of now Mega Dragonite is the only new Mega Evolution appearing in Pokemon Legends Z-A. Besides that, there are several rumored new Mega Evolutions that may be appearing in the games. This information comes from leakers online, who have been relatively accurate in the past. As a matter of fact, Mega Dragonite was also among the Pokemon leaked in advance. Pokemon Legends Z-A Introduces “Rogue Mega Evolutions”

Ever since Pokemon Sword and Shield, mainline Pokemon games have included a Raid mechanic involving fighting a “Boss Pokemon.” For Legends Z-A, this appears to be “rogue Mega Evolutions.” According to previous lore, Pokemon can only undergo Mega Evolution thanks to the bond with their trainer. However, random Pokemon seem to be doing so in the wild and are causing a lot of destruction which you have to stop.

The trailer indicates that we will team up with other trainers to bring down these wild Mega Pokemon. In addition to this the trailer indicates that the player acquires the means to Mega Evolve the same Pokemon if it is in your party after defeating it.

We will be updating this article when more and more information on this game as the publisher reveals it. So, get ready to go on an adventure with your favorite Mega Pokemon once again.
