Here’s a walkthrough for Alola, Raichu side quest in Pokemon Legends Z-A, and what rewards you can get upon completion.
The Alola, Raichu! is an unlockable side quest after finishing all main missions in Pokemon Legends Z-A. In this quest, you meet Gridella who discusses the differences between a regular Raichu and an Alolan variant. However, she believes that a battle is a better way for you to understand the differences. If you don’t have a Raichu yet, you will have to catch one to proceed with the quest. At the end of the battle, you two can trade Pokemon and get yourself an Alolan Raichu.

How To Complete Alola, Raichu! Quest in Pokemon Legends Z-A
Before anything else, you first need to finish The Future of Lumiose City main mission. This will unlock the post-game section, where you get some keep playing the game. On top of that, new side quests will also become available for you to check out.
Speak With Gridella
To start the Alola, Raichu! side quest, you need to speak with Gridella. You can find her outside the Quassartico Inc. building. You can choose to fast travel to reach the area quickly. She is standing near the entrance of the building.
She wants to showcase the differences between a regular Raichu and an Alolan variant. To better explain things, she wants to have a battle with you. The catch is, both of you are only allowed to battle with Raichu. This means your Raichu, battling against her Alolan Raichu.
Where To Get Raichu
To continue the quest, you first need to have a Raichu. If you have one already, you can remove all the other Pokemon on your team except Raichu. Interact with Gridella to start the battle. However, if you don’t have this Pokemon yet, you need to catch one first.
A Raichu can be acquired by evolving a Pikachu. You can find them in Wild Zone 3 or Wild Zone 6. Make sure you use the right Poke Balls to maximize your chances of catching one. After successfully catching a Pikachu, buy a Thunder Stone from the Stone Emporium. Use the stone on your Pikachu to evolve it into a Raichu.
How to Defeat Gridella
In this battle, you have no other option but to fight Gridella with a Raichu. Make sure your Pokemon has enough levels to fight against her Level 64 Alolan Raichu. A good tactic is to acquire a Dig TM and use it on your Raichu. This Ground-type move is super effective against Electric-type Pokemon. This puts you at a massive advantage.
Trade Raichu With Gridella
Once the battle ends, you can trade with Gridella and get an Alolan Raichu. If you don’t want to let go of the Raichu you used in battle, you can trade a separate one. The level will not matter. Once the trade is done, the quest completes, and you get your rewards.
Alola, Raichu! Side Quest Reward
Completing this quest will reward you with coins and the following items:
- 500 Pokedollars
- 10x Tomato Berry
- 10x Pomeg Berry
Tomato Berry can increase your Pokemon’s Friendship at a cost of lowering their Speed stat. The Pomeg Berry, on the other hand, still does the same Friendship increase effect, but lowers their HP stat.
