Blastoise is a well-rounded Pokemon with high defenses and a capable offense, especially in its Mega Evolved form within Legends Z-A. You can easily take a hit and then retaliate with the right moveset to deal lethal damage to its foes.

However, the right moveset alone might not be enough in some cases. So, you will also want the best possible nature for your Blastoise to maximize its damage output.

  • Aqua Ring
  • Surf
  • Dragon Pulse
  • Ice Beam/Iron Defense

Unfortunately, Blastoise suffers from a somewhat poor moveset within this game. Almost none of the moves it learns naturally are extremely powerful or synergize well with its stats. So, you will have to get lots of TMs to build this Pokemon.

Surf will be your go-to Water-type move. It has high base power combined with a wide area-of-effect (AOE). Both of these factors make it great for competitive and casual battles, allowing you to damage multiple Pokemon at once.

Aqua Ring is a healing option that Blastoise can learn while leveling up. This is a great move to start the battle with, as it lets you heal over time. Combined with Blastoise’s high defensive stats, this move can become particularly annoying to deal with.

Dragon Pulse is simply a high-power move that you can learn via a TM. It is particularly effective in the current meta for Legends Z-A, simply because lots of the top teams will usually have at least one Dragon type in them. Your regular Water-type attacks would not work well on Dragon-types, so it is suggested to have one Dragon-type move.

Lastly, you can pick between two moves based on your playing style. If you prefer a more offensive setup, then Ice Beam should be your pick. It not only counters Grass types (a natural weakness for Water types) but also gives you another option against powerful Dragon types. However, if you prefer a more defensive approach, use Iron Defense to boost your Defense and make Aqua Ring even more effective.

Best Blastoise Nature in Pokemon Legends Z-A

There are three natures you should use mints to change into:

  • Modest (+SpA/-Atk)
  • Calm (+SpD/-Atk)
  • Bold (+Def/-Atk)

Increasing Blastoise’s Special Attack by sacrificing its Attack is a viable option. Similarly, you can also choose to increase its Defense or Special Defense for better survivability.
