Learn how to use Pikachu in the Pokemon Legends Z-A competitive scene with information about its moveset and nature.

Pikachu is the face of the franchise. Despite that, this Electric-type has not been amazing competitively. This is mainly because it is an NFE (Not Fully Evolved) Pokemon. However, with the small Pokedex and changed mechanics, it’s actually somewhat viable in the Legends Z-A meta.
Best Pikachu Moveset in Pokemon Legends Z-A

These are the moves you want to use on your Pikachu if you plan on using it in battle.
- Volt Tackle
- Play Rough
- Volt Switch
- Protect
Despite its low stats, Pikachu has a few things going for it. It faces very little Electric-type competition, with Jolteon being its only true non-Mega competition. It also gets access to the line’s signature move, Volt Tackle, which deals high damage and has a low cooldown of 9 for a move of that power.
As for the reason to use Pikachu over its evolved form, Raichu, this comes down to the held item Light Ball. This item doubles the Attack and Special Attack stat of any Pikachu that holds it. All these factors make Pikachu a decent pick for the meta.
Volt Tackle comes at level 99 for Pikachu and will be its main Electric STAB. Play Rough acts as coverage against Dragon-types, with TM020 for the move given to you after the main mission “Reaching Rank B.”
Volt Switch is useful for putting some distance between you and your opponent and is given to you by Canari after completing “Reaching Rank E.” Finally, being able to Protect will help in a pinch, as Pikachu remains very frail. TM017 for the move is given to you by Mable as a level 4 research reward.
Pikachu needs the Light Ball to be viable. Complete the side mission “The World’s Greatest Pikachu” to get it.
Best Pikachu Nature in Pokemon Legends Z-A
A Lonely (+Atk, -Def) nature is great for Pikachu. This does not compromise either of its offenses or its Speed stat. You can get a Lonely Mint from a vendor in Rouge Sector 1.
