Learn how to use Starmie and its Mega in the Pokemon Legends Z-A competitive scene with information about its moveset and nature.

Starmie is a Water/Psychic type first introduced in Generation I. While known for being a powerful Special Attacker that could also use Rapid Spin, it fell behind Excadrill over time in this role. However, it got a new Mega Evolution in Pokemon Legends Z-A. So let’s see if this manages to make Starmie competitively viable once again.
Best Starmie Moveset in Pokemon Legends Z-A

These are the moves you want to use on your Starmie, especially if you are looking to Mega Evolve it later.
- Liquidation
- Zen Headbutt
- Recover
- Aqua Jet
Interestingly, Mega Starmie is a powerful physical attacker with an Attack stat higher than the Special Attack stat. As Rapid Spin is no longer present in the game, Starmie cannot be used in its old role of hazard removal. However, its movepool is wide enough and includes enough physical options for Mega Starmie to be effective.
Starmie gets some of its best moves from its level-up moveset. It gets Liquidation at Level 42 for heavy Water-type damage, while Aqua Jet at Level 12 acts as a light attack. It can also heal itself with Recover, which it can attain at Level 48. As for Zen Headbutt, it is TM059 and a Research Reward from Mable at Level 20 of her research.
You get the Starminite by defeating the Rogue Mega Starmie as part of the mission “A Rogue Mega Starmie.”
Best Starmie Nature in Pokemon Legends Z-A
Adamant (+Atk, -SpA) might be the best nature for Mega Starmie. While the Mysterious Pokemon usually has a high base Special Attack stat in its base form, its Attack stat rises sharply when it Mega Evolves. So going with an Adamant nature is best, as this Pokemon is blazing fast and does not need the boost from a Jolly nature. If your Starmie has a different nature, you can use a Mint to change it. An Adamant Mint can be bought from a vendor at Rouge Sector 1.
