Learn how to use Talonflame in the Pokemon Legends Z-A competitive scene with information about its moveset and nature.

Talonflame is a Fire/Flying-type first introduced in Generation VI. It was very commonly seen in the competitive meta of its debut generation thanks to its Hidden Ability Gale Wings. This ability gave it priority on its Flying-type moves, ranging from offensive (Brave Bird), support (Tailwind), and healing (Roost). However, after Gale Wings was nerfed in the next generation, it lost its place in the meta. So let’s see if it improves in the Legends Z-A meta.
Best Talonflame Moveset in Pokemon Legends Z-A

These are the moves you want to use on your Talonflame letting it do well in a Mega Evolution dominated metagame.
- Swords Dance
- Brave Bird
- Flare Blitz
- U-Turn
Unfortunately, there are no Abilities in Pokemon Legends Z-A. Additionally, Talonflame loses a lot of useful moves, e.g., Roost and Tailwind, which used to help it out a lot. However, the small Pokedex of Legends Z-A works in its favor. There are very few Fire-types and even fewer that don’t need Mega Evolution to function. Talonflame has a Speed stat decent enough to allow it to move quickly enough, making it a functional non-Mega Pokemon.
Swords Dance is very useful on Talonflame, giving it a +2 Attack boost. Mable gives TM030 as part of her level 21 research reward, which contains Swords Dance. Brave Bird and Flare Blitz are part of Talonflame’s level-up move pool, with the former teachable when it evolves from Fletchinder and the latter at level 45. Finally, U-Turn is useful for positioning Talonflame during a battle. Teach it to Talonflame with TM082, also given to you by Mable at level 19 of her research reward list.
The best item for Talonflame to hold is the Muscle Band, which can be found as a reward for completing the side mission “We’ll Just Muscle Our Way Through.”
Best Talonflame Nature in Pokemon Legends Z-A
An Adamant (+Atk, -SpA) nature is best suited for your Talonflame. This bird already has more than decent Speed and could benefit from a boost in its Attack. You can buy an Adamant Mint from a vendor at Rouge Sector 1.
