The Legendary Pokemon that rules over death, Yveltal, is one-third of the Kalos Legendary trio, and available to catch and use in Legends Z-A. The One That Takes is feared due to its high base stat total combined with its strong moves.

This guide will contain the best moveset and nature for Yveltal, which will make this Pokemon even better for competitive use.

Best Yveltal Moveset in Pokemon Legends Z-A

  • Oblivion Wing
  • Dark Pulse
  • Phantom Force
  • Focus Blast

Oblivion Wing is the signature move of Yveltal, and an easy pick for this moveset. It is a Flying-type move with high base power and an immensely useful side effect. Oblivion Wing lets you heal back 75% of the damage dealt to the opposing Pokemon. This move is going to be key in ensuring that Yveltal remains healthy in battle.

Dark Pulse is one of the most powerful Dark-type moves, which makes it an obvious choice for the Dark/Flying type. You will also get Same Type Attack Bonus (STAB) if Yveltal uses this move.

Yveltal is weak to Ice, Rock, and Fairy type moves. Both Rock and Ice type Pokemon have a weakness to Fighting type moves. Thus, to cover your weakness, you should use Focus Blast to deal with a majority of the Pokemon aiming to target Yveltal’s weaknesses.

Lastly, Phantom Force is just a great move that is extremely hard to avoid. On top of this, it lets your Pokemon disappear from battle for a few moments. You can use this defensively to avoid some incoming attacks, or simply to make it harder for your opponent to use moves.

Alternatively, you can also consider using Dragon Claw or Dragon Rush in place of Phantom Force. This will let you hit the weakness of many Dragon-type Pokemon that are commonly used in ranked matches.

Best Yveltal Nature in Pokemon Legends Z-A

Unlike most Pokemon, Yveltal has an extremely high Attack and Special Attack stat. Thus, you can use Physical or Special moves with this Legendary without any issue. The same has been done with the above moveset. So, this means that you will not want to sacrifice either of those stats. Instead, you should use a Nature Mint to change into the following nature:

  • Rash (+SpA/-SpD)
  • Naughty (+Atk/-SpD)

Yveltal’s Special Defense is a little bit higher than its Defense. Therefore, you should consider lowering it a bit in place of its Special Attack or Attack. Preferably, you should focus on Special Attack, since three of your moves are Special moves.

Serious is also not a bad choice, as a neutral nature works fine for Yveltal.

Best Item For Yveltal

Yveltal cannot Mega Evolve. Thus, you can use a good Held Item like the Assault Vest on it. This would combo especially well with the Rash nature. You can make up for the lowered Special Defense.

Alternatively, you can consider having Yveltal hold a Roseli Berry, which will reduce the effectiveness of a Fairy type move used on Yveltal.
