Ash-Greninja, while far from a poster boy, is a longstanding fan-favorite, but is he part of the Pokemon Legends Z-A roster?
Pokemon Legends Z-A has an impressive roster of Pokemon to find and capture, but if you’ve sunk a few hours into the game, you’re probably wondering where Ash-Greninja is. Ash-Greninja, or Ash’s Greninja as he’s called, was the first Pokemon Ash caught in Kalos.
Over the course of the Ash-Greninja’s story arc, we saw Greninja’s early life, how it was the black sheep amongst his friends, and how he eventually found his way to Ash. We formed a strong bond with this Pokemon, and if you’re anything like us, you’ll be heartbroken to know that Ash-Greninja is not in Pokemon Legends Z-A. It’s not all bad news, however. Ash-Greninja may not be in the game, but Mega Greninja certainly is. We shall discuss this in detail below.

How To Get Mega Greninja in Pokemon Legends Z-A
As stated earlier, while you can’t get Ash-Greninja, you can still get your hands on Mega Greninja. This ensures that you have your Greninja fix and can keep dominating the ranks. Now, if you’re wondering how to unlock Mega Greninja, you’ll have to try out the game’s Ranked battles.
The Ranked battle mode, introduced in the newly launched Season One, is a four-player, online battle mode where you can challenge players from around the world. Play through this mode and rise up from Rank A to Rank K. Reaching Rank K grants you the Greninjite reward, which you can then use to Mega Evolve Greninja into Mega Greninja.

How To Get Greninja in Pokemon Legends Z-A
Now, if you don’t have Greninja to begin with, you can acquire the Pokemon by following the steps below:
- Acquire a Froakie. You can get this Pokemon by reaching Rank X and heading to North Boulevard. You’ll find Surv standing here right next to a Froakie.
- Talk to Surv and begin his side quest. You have to race through a scaffolding course within the given time limit to complete this quest.
- You then have to level up Froakie to evolve it into a Greninja. Once that’s done, simply follow the steps above to get your Mega Greninja.
