Here is a breakdown of the latest Pokemon Legends Z-A demo that lists everything you need to know about the upcoming title.

The Pokemon World Championship 2025 has finally dropped a demo for Pokemon Legends Z-A, and there’s a lot of information that has been revealed. In a 20-minute video that Austin John Plays posted on his YouTube channel, you can see a plethora of content, with some new and unique features. Unfortunately, the video does not show any of the newer Mega Evolutions. That said, Mega Absol with Rogue Mega Evolution does make an appearance.
While some features are up for speculation, one thing is for certain – Pokemon Legends Z-A polishes almost everything that we saw in Legends Arceus. In this article, we will provide a breakdown of the Pokemon Legends Z-A demo and list everything that you need to know about it.
Everything You Need To Know About Pokemon Legends Z-A (Demo Breakdown)
Here are all the main pointers that you need to know from the Pokemon Legends Z-A demo breakdown:
- Districts and Pokemon Centers
- Wild Zones
- Battle Zone
- Z-A Royale
- Pokemon And Moves
- Rogue Mega Evolution Battles
- Story
- Missions
- NPCs / Characters
You can find a more detailed explanation on these pointers below:
1. Districts and Pokemon Centers

Pokemon Legends Z-A takes place in Lumiose City, and it contains several districts and Pokemon Centers, among other structures.
- There are multiple districts in Pokemon Legends Z-A.
- Vert District is the starting area.
- Other confirmed districts include Magenta and Bleu.
- There are several Pokemon Centers (denoted by a grey Pokeball icon) spread throughout, which are:
- Vert Pokemon Center
- Vernal Avenue Pokemon Center
- Bleu Pokemon Center
- Magenta Plaza Pokemon Center
- Centrico Pokemon Center
- Magenta Pokemon Center
- Other Pokemon Centers also exist whose names have not been revealed.
- You will be able to place custom pins on the map by pressing the “A” button.
2. Wild Zones
Wild Zones are areas where you can freely catch Pokmeon in Legends Z-A:
- The demo showed six Wild Zones spread across the map.
- There seems to be no Wild Zone near the Magenta District on the left side of the map, although a similar space is visible. This can be something that you unlock later, or may be tied to story progression.
3. Battle Zone

These are areas where you fight other trainers:
- Only remains active at night, and these are special areas marked by a red barrier that you can enter.
- Once you enter, trainers will challenge you when they spot you.
- You can sneak up on a trainer from the back to surprise them. This will allow you to deal a “first strike.”
- You can bring out your Pokemon and have them fight in real time.
- Each battle has a particular amount of time in which you need to complete it.
- Defeating trainers rewards you with Points and Medals.
- If you lose a battle, you will have to give up half of your Medals.
- When daybreak happens, you will receive Poke Money based on the number of Medals that you have.
4. Z-A Royale
Likely the main tournament in Pokemon Legends Z-A, which is also very closely tied to the story of the game:
- Headed by an organization that closely monitors the Rogue Mega Evolution mechanic.
- You start from Rank Z, the lowest.
- You need to collect 1000 Ticket Points in the Battle Zone to get a Challenger’s Ticket. This will likely let you increase your rank.
- At Rank V (letter V and not Roman Numerical,) you will need 6000 Ticket Points to get a Challenger’s Ticket.
5. Pokemon, Moves, And Battling

As a Legends game, standard turn-based Pokemon battles do not exist here. Instead, it is real-time battles, and closer to how they actually work in the Pokemon anime:
- The keybinds for your Pokemon’s moves are your face buttons (XYAB buttons.) You can customize them and change their keybinds however you like.
- Each move has a cooldown period, which means you cannot spam moves.
- Pokemon natures exist as well.
- You can use your Pokemon to remove obstacles, similar to earlier mainline games. You can also use this to farm items. The demo showed Chikorita using Razor Leaf on the Mega Shard deposit.
- You can get Mega Shards from the open world.
- Pokemon have held items, and berries were shown.
- Abilities do not seem to exist in Pokemon Legends Z-A.
- Status moves are also available.
- You can find the Mega Symbol for your Pokemon on the top right side.
- Features like Auto Heal and Swapping Pokemon amid battles are also active.
- Your bag is called the Satchel, and it contains all your items.
- You will be able to run away from a fight if you cannot win it, although it will count as a loss.
6. Rogue Mega Evolution Battles

Rogue Mega Evolution is a new variant of the Mega Evolution gimmick, and it’s a prime feature of this title. Here is what the Pokemon Legends Z-A demo has revealed about it:
- You will get your Mega Stone from AZ and Lucario during the story.
- The Rogue Mega Evolved Absol is at level 25, which suggests this encounter happens fairly early in the game.
- As you battle, Mega Energy will fall off the Rogue Mega Evolved Pokemon. You need to collect these to fill up your Mega Gauge.
- Once the Mega Gauge is full, you can Mega Evolve your own Pokemon.
- The Mega Gauge depletes as you continue to fight in Mega Evolved form. Once it depletes, the Mega Evolution becomes undone.
- You can repeat this process to Mega Evolve your Pokemon again.
- Once defeated, the Rogue Mega Evolution dissipates, and the critter reverts to its non-Mega form.
7. Story

Only a little bit has been shared about the story of Pokemon Legends Z-A from the demo at the Pokemon World Championship 2025:
- Your player seems to stay in Room 202 of Hotel Z. (As implied by your Key.)
- As the name suggests, the story revolves around Zygarde.
- The demo shows you chasing Zygarde (10% form) around Lumiose City, with Emma being your guide.
- Eventually, this will lead you to an Absol undergoing Rogue Mega Evolution on a rooftop.
- AZ will arrive with his Lucario, and you will get your Mega Bracelet at this point.
- AZ’s Lucario will be your first Mega Evolution in Pokemon Legends Z-A.
- Once you defeat the Rogue Mega Absol, it will join your party.
- Emma explains that Rogue Mega Evolution causes pain for the Pokemon, and a “certain section” is carefully monitoring these.
- The Z-A Royale is closely tied to the story, and you will have to up your rank to get there to uncover the details.
8. Missions
There are missions in Pokemon Legends Z-A, and you can track them from the menu, akin to standard RPG titles. The demo showed the following four missions:
- Battling in the Z-A Royale: To take part in a promotion match, you must first take on other Trainers in the battle zone and earn yourself a ticket. Clear this initial hurdle, then reach Rank Y!
- Get Your Travel Bag Back!: After a long journey, you’ve arrived in Lumiose City! But a Pokemon named Pancham has run off with your bag… Chase after it to reclaim your belongings!
- Escape from the Battle Zone!: The city changes a lot when the sun goes down. Find your way out of this “battle zone” and retreat to the safety of Hotel Z with the help of your new friend Urbain.
- A New Life in Lumiose City: It’s been one unexpected development after another, but your new life in Lumiose is off to an exciting start. Have your new friend Urbain show you the ropes.
