Honedge’s Cutting Edge in Pokemon Legends Z-A is Side Mission 83 of the game. You get it after crossing a specific portion of the game’s main campaign. So, if you’re just starting out, you’ll need to make a significant bit of progression before you can tackle this specific side quest. The following walkthrough takes a detailed look at how you can unlock the quest, start it, and then see it through to its completion.
How To Start Honedge’s Cutting Edge in Pokemon Legends Z-A
Honedge’s Cutting Edge side mission becomes available after the appearances of the following Rogue Mega Pokemon as part of Main Mission 26: An Invitation from the SBC:
At this point in the game, you can take up the side quest in question. All you need to trigger it is to head to the Rouge Pokemon Center and then proceed north from this location. You should be able to locate an NPC named Acier at this spot. Speak with him to begin the Honedge’s Cutting Edge side quest.
How To Complete Honedge’s Cutting Edge in Pokemon Legends Z-A
Acier will want you to battle his Honedge with a Pupitar. If you don’t have the Pokemon in your collectuion yet, this would be the perfect time to get it. Unfortunately, you can’t catch Pupitar in the wild. Instead, the only way to get it is to catch a Larvitar and evolve it to a Pupitar once it reaches level 30. So, the first order of business should be to grab a Larvitar first if you don’t own one.
Catching Larvitar
We suggest heading to Wild Zone 15 to grab the Larvitar, as this one is at level 43, ready to evolve into a Pupitar immediately after you capture it. You will need to complete Side Mission 80: A Shocking Territorial Dispute to fix up a Holovator that leads to Wild Zone 15 first. Once you’re done with that quest, simply go up to the roof and catch the Larvitar. Evolve it into the Pupitar, but don’t head back to Acier just yet.
Instead, keep leveling up your Pupitar until it hits at least level 55. That’s the level of Acier’s Honedge. Trying to fight the Honedge with an under leveled Pupitar won’t end well, as the opponent Pokemon can one shot your weaker creature. Make sure you don’t evolve your Pupitar into a Tyranitar though, since Acier specifically wants you to challenge his Honedge with the Pupitar.
Initiate the Battle
After you have the Pupitar at the right level, head back to Acier and challenge him to a duel. Make sure you only have Pupitar in your active party. Otherwise, Acier won’t accept your challenge. Also, before challenging him to the fight, make sure you teach your Pupitar moves, such as Crunch and Earthquake, both of which are highly effective against the Honedge. Once the fight starts keep spamming those moves, while also healing your Pupitar if it takes too much damage.
Honedge’s Cutting Edge Quest Rewards
You will receive the following rewards after defeating Honedge and completing the quest:
- 1x Dust Stone
- 2x Hyper Potion
- 1000 Poke Dollars
