This guide will cover how you can defeat L or Lysandre, who is the strongest trainer battle within Pokemon Legends Z-A.

L is one of the most powerful opponents you will face in Pokemon Legends Z-A. The former leader of Team Flare is one of the final challenges for you to battle in the game. And befitting of his position, he is the hardest trainer battle in the entire game.
After you have completed almost every other main mission in the game, L will challenge you. If you can defeat L, then there likely isn’t any challenge in the game you can’t beat. Here is how you can defeat Pokemon Trainer L in Legends Z-A.
How To Defeat L (Lysandre) in Pokemon Legends Z-A

As stated above, you can only fight L after almost every other Main Mission in the game. In particular, you will need to complete the missions The One That Gives and The One That Takes to catch Xerneas and Yveltal, respectively. These missions are only available after the main story, once you have started the Infinite Z-A Royale.
Once you have fulfilled all of the requirements, L will meet you at Hotel Z for the final challenge. He uses a full team of six Pokemon, the weakest of which are at level 78. He also has excellent type coverage across his team, so make sure you come fully prepared.
L (Lysandre)’s Team of Pokemon

The six Pokemon used by Lysandre/L are as follows:
| Pokemon | Level | Weakness | Moves |
|---|---|---|---|
| Pyroar | 78 | Fighting Ground Rock Water | Hyper Voice Flamethrower Snarl Solar Beam |
| Florges | 78 | Poison Steel | Energy Ball Dazzling Gleam Psychic Calm Mind |
| Sableye | 78 | Fairy | Will-O-Wisp Night Slash Shadow Claw Confuse Ray |
| Noivern | 79 | Rock Dragon Fairy Ice (4x) | Boomburst Hurricane Dragon Pulse Super Fang |
| Garbodor | 79 | Ground Psychic | Gunk Shot Brutal Swing Rock Blast Metal Claw |
| Gyarados (Mega) | 80 | Rock Electric (4x) Mega Form: Fighting Bug Grass Electric Fairy | Crunch Waterfall Ice Fang Earthquake |
Counters to L (Lysandre)’s Team
As L is just about the last challenge in the game, you will have access to almost every Pokemon in the game by this point. This will make countering his team much easier. As you can see from the table above, three of L’s Pokemon are weak to Fairy-type moves (since L will always Mega Evolve his Gyarados instantly).
Therefore, bringing a powerful Fairy-type is highly recommended. Fortunately, you have to catch the strongest Fairy-type in the game to battle Lysandre. So, using Xerneas is one of the best options for this fight. A combination of Geomancy and Moonblast can defeat half of his team on their own.
This leaves Pyroar, Florges, and Garbodor. Pyroar and Garbodor share a weakness to Ground, so bring a powerful Ground-type. One of the best options is Garchomp. As for Florges, any powerful Steel or Poison-type will do. Some options include Scolipede, Dragalge, Lucario, and Metagross.
Make sure to keep some Hyper Potions and Revives in stock just in case. While you should be unlikely to lose with a Pokemon as powerful as Xerneas, should the worst occur, you can always Revive and continue.
