Rintaro the Waiter stops you in your journey to A-rank in Pokemon Legends Z-A. His trio of Simisage, Simipour, and Simisage are three elemental Pokemon that face you off during the Mission 8: Reaching Rank V quest. Rintaro is a defensive trainer who spams Protect with all his Pokemon. Here’s how you can counter it and beat him.
How To Defeat Rintaro in Pokemon Legends Z-A
Where To Find Rintaro and the Requirement To Battle Him
To battle Rintaro, you need to obtain 5000 Ticket Points to obtain the Challenger Ticket. You can find Rintaro at the Restaurant Le Nah in Vert Sector 6. You can fast travel to this location by spotting the yellow quest marker on your world map. He can be found standing inside the reception area of the restaurant.
Rintaro’s Team of Pokemon
His trio consists of Grass, Water, and Fire-type, and can be countered by catching specific Pokemon that counter them. Binacle, Fletchinder, and your starter Pokemon can easily take down the group. His Pokemon are leveled up to 24, so levelling up yours to around 25-26 will ensure an easy time against him.
All of his Pokemon also have Protect. He will normally start the battle with this move, so make sure to hit a tackle to negate the Protect before hitting the big moves.

Counters To Rintaro’s Team
Rintaro’s Team can be easily countered with the types mentioned in the table. His only gimmick is the constant use of Protect, a move that will negate any damage for the next move hit. So, make sure to hit the Pokemon with a tackle or any high PP ability. After the Protect wears off, you can hit with moves like Ember, Bubble Whip, Rock Blast, Vine Whip, or any moves that deal 2x damage to Rintaro’s Pokemon.
If you have any Ghost or Psychic-type Pokemon, you should sit them out for this battle. All of his Pokemon have Bite, a Dark-type move that deals 2x damage to your Ghost or Psychic-type Pokemon.
The best battle situation against Rintaro would be to hit a weak attack to negate Protect, and switch to a direct counter against the Pokemon he brings to battle. With this strategy, it should be as easy as possible, even when your Pokemon are a level or two below his.
