Gengar is one of the most iconic Ghost/Poison Pokemon to make a return in Pokemon Legends Z-A, including Gastly and Haunter. Like Alakazam, Gengar also gains a massive boost to its Special Attack stat after Mega Evolving, which can win you quite a lot of fights through sheer damage. However, you cannot obtain Gengar in this title through normal means.

How To Get Gastly, Haunter, and Gengar in Pokemon Legends Z-A

In Pokemon Legends Z-A, you can only catch Gastly and Haunter. They spawn in two unique locations that are exclusive to Ghost-type Pokemon. Moreover, one of the locations requires you to complete specific missions to unlock the area. That said, here are the locations where you can catch these Pokemon: 

• Wild Zone 4. (Gastly)
• Wild Zone 15 at Night, after you complete the “Reaching Rank D” mission. (Haunter)

Additionally, you can rest on benches near Pokemon Centres to pass the time, and make it nighttime to encounter Haunters in the wild successfully. 

Gengar 

To get Gengar in Pokemon Legends Z-A, you have to use the Link Trade feature. Gengar is one of the few Pokemon that evolve only when you trade it to someone else. Therefore, it is mandatory to purchase the Nintendo Switch Online subscription, which unlocks all online-related features, including Trading. Additionally, you need to find a friend to trade your Haunter with and then use the same method to get back the Gengar.

Here are some tips and tricks you can use to obtain these Pokemon easily: 

• You can use Dusk Balls to catch Haunter, as you get a boost on the catch rate at night. Moreover, Haunter spawn specifically at night.
• You can put the Pokemon to Sleep or Paralyse them to have a higher catch rate than usual.
• There are many online forums that you can join to trade Pokemon. This is a great way to obtain Gengar if you do not have any friends to trade with.
