In the Poisonous, Paralyzing Strategies side quest, you will get caught between two trainers arguing about which status condition causes more trouble in battle. One believes paralysis gives a bigger edge, while the other supports poison.

You can start this quest after clearing Main Mission 08 and unlocking full access to Lumiose City in Pokemon Legends Z-A. Head over to Vert Sector 3, and you will find Lyse and Venin deep in discussion. Once you talk to them, Lyse will challenge you first.

Before starting the battle, it is smart to prepare. Bring Cheri Berries, Pecha Berries, Paralyze Heals, and Antidotes. These items will help you recover from status effects that both trainers heavily depend on.

You will battle Lyse first. Her team uses paralysis to slow you down. She sends out Electrike (Level 16) and Budew (Level 16).

Here is how you can deal with her:

  • Give your Pokemon Cheri Berries so they automatically cure paralysis.
  • Keep Paralyze Heal ready for use mid-battle.
  • Use Ground-type Pokemon against Electrike since Electric moves do not affect them. Diggersby is a great pick and can be evolved from Bunnelby in Wild Zone 1.
  • When Budew comes out, switch to Fire, Flying, Ice, or Psychic-type Pokemon to finish the battle faster.

Once you defeat Lyse, she gives you a Paralyze Heal.

Next, you face Venin, who focuses on poison effects. His team includes Venipede (Level 16) and Bellsprout (Level 16). Both Pokemon can poison your team, making it a slower and tougher fight.

To make things easier:

  • Use Pecha Berries to cure poison instantly.
  • Carry Antidotes or Full Heals for backup.
  • Flying-type and Fire-type Pokemon deal heavy damage to his team.
  • Steel-type Pokemon are immune to poison. If you have Honedge, use it. You can catch Honedge in Wild Zone 4 at night near the cemetery.

Once you beat Venin, you receive a Full Heal.
