These cafes don’t explicitly state their purpose, and you may take them to be a simple attraction to breathe life into the city. However, they have a mechanical purpose and help strengthen the bonds you share with your Pokemon. We shall discuss this in detail below.

What Are Cafes Used For in Pokemon Legends Z-A?
Cafes are spots where you can go and hang out with your Pokemon in Pokemon Legends Z-A. Once you’re in a cafe, you then get the option to purchase drinks. Purchasing these drinks allows you to grow your friendship with your Pokemon, which is an essential step in helping them evolve to the next stage.
If you’re looking to evolve a particular Pokemon but don’t have the friendship necessary to do so, take them to a cafe. Ensure that they are an active member of your party. Only active members in a party can avail the benefits of the drinks you purchase. So, say you’re looking to evolve an Eevee, select her as an active member. You’ll then get confirmation of the game when you sit in the cafe. Your active Pokemon will sit right next to you on the table. If it isn’t the Pokemon you’re trying to evolve, you can exit, switch up, and return to the cafe.
Apart from helping you form bonds, the drinks you purchase also help heal and remove any status effects your Pokemon are inflicted with. If you’ve been in a difficult battle and spot a cafe nearby, stopping for a drink is a wise step.
Lastly, visiting a cafe unlocks it as a fast travel spot. Lumiose City is a massive map, and traversing a map of this size can be a chore with the limited character mobility. Unlocking all cafes as a fast travel point makes traveling across the map far more bearable.
