Much like Charizard, Pikachu cards are also very popular among collectors of the Pokemon TCG. As such, older cards featuring the mascot of the franchise tend to be valuable due to the rarity of high-quality versions of them. So, in this article, we will look at the most expensive Pikachu cards to have been released to the public.

5 Most Expensive Pikachu Cards in the Pokemon TCG

These cards are the most expensive cards focused on Pikachu:

  • Pikachu Reverse Holofoil Legendary Collection
  • Pikachu Base Set Red Cheeks
  • Pikachu Gold Star Holon Phantoms
  • Pikachu WotC Black Star Promo Ivy Misprint
  • 2015 Pokémon Art Academy Competition Cards

5) Pikachu Reverse Holofoil Legendary Collection

Price for a PSA 10 card: $4,050

As the first Reverse Holofoil starring Pikachu, this reprint from the Legendary collection is highly sought after by collectors. Reverse Holofoils were cards whose foil cover was on the rest of the card besides the artwork. The publisher, Wizards of the Coast (WoTC), gave this style of foil a fireworks effect to make it stand out.

4) Pikachu Base Set Red Cheeks

Price for a PSA 10 card: $4,200

While this card is a version of Pikachu from the Base Set, that’s not the only reason it’s sought after. This Pikachu card was apparently an exclusive version distributed at E3 1999. Due to the Pikachu in this card having Red Cheeks, that has become the distinguishing factor behind it.

3) Pikachu Gold Star Holon Phantoms

Price for a PSA 10 card: $7,200

Pikachu Gold Star is the first Shiny version of this card in the TCG. That alone is enough to justify its high value. However, it was also the most expensive Pikachu card to be distributed in regular booster packs.

2) Pikachu WotC Black Star Promo Ivy Misprint

Price for a PSA 10 card: $7,200

This Pikachu card was a Promo card first released as a 1st edition for the Jungle expansion (the mark of which can be seen at the bottom left of the artwork). However, what makes this valuable is the Ivy background in this Pikachu card, commonly believed to be an error.

Additionally, this misprinted card was accidentally released to the public in a booster pack, with the exact number of these unknown. As a result, this Pikachu card remains one of the rarest cards in TCG history.

1) 2015 Pokémon Art Academy Competition Cards

Price for a PSA 10 card: $8,700-$10,800

So the five cards shown above have a unique history. The cards are fan creations by players of the 3DS game Pokemon Art Academy as part of a competition. Out of the 22 winning cards, only 5 got English releases. As such, they are extremely rare, with even lower-graded cards going for high prices.
