Read more and find out our top five Pokemon picks that we think will blend perfectly in the Monster Hunter Universe.

The Monster Hunter Universe already has an interesting roster of creatures. Any person who is a fan of giant monsters that can annihilate them will love almost all creatures in the franchise. Now, imagine a world where the Pokemon universe collides with the Monster Hunter universe. Isn’t it fascinating how some of the creatures from the former could easily fit into the latter world? Today, we will present a list of such Pokemon that arguably feel native to the MHU.
NOTE: The list contains the writer‘s subjective opinions and is not ranked in any way.
Pokemon That Feel Perfect in the Monster Hunter Universe
There are several “monsters” in the Monster Hunter Universe. Each of them has a different ability to defend itself and even reacts differently to your aggression. However, one thing that MH fans can’t disagree with is that it’s usually the aggressive monsters in the game that are the most memorable. That’s why they are called “monsters” in the first place—because those beasts will attack you without any warning or perceived threat. So, I have tried to include Pokemon that will do a good job fitting into such a “wild” setting. The names go as follows:
- Steelix
- Gyarados
- Charizard
- Giratina
- Guzzlord
Not all of these are well-known. However, if you wish to know more about them and why we put them on the list, keep scrolling below.

1. Steelix

Onix is a Rock/Ground-type Pokemon. I am sure most kids who grew up watching it in any Pokemon anime would probably have found it to be scary. Steelix, on the other hand, is the evolved version of Onix. It is a Steel/Ground-type Pokemon that looks much meaner compared to Onix. The Rock-type’s size may be intimidating, but his eyes suggested he may be too lazy to chase you down. His evolved, steel version has a look that suggests he will chase you down to the core of the earth.
Unironically, Steelix is recorded to have reached a depth of over six-tenths of a mile underground, known for digging toward the earth’s core. Monster Hunter fans will probably come across Steelix inside a hot, volcanic cave with not a lot of areas to escape to.
2. Gyarados

Magikarp may look like a harmless little goldfish, but not a lot of people expect what comes next. Under the right circumstances, Magikarp will evolve into Gyarados. This fellow can fly and is also a Water-type Pokemon. It’s an extremely rare occurrence that you find it in a good mood. In most conditions, you will always find it outraged. Its natural habitat being water bodies makes it much scarier in its own domain. The protagonist from any Monster Hunter game will have an epic battle against this beast.

3. Charizard

To be honest, Charizard is not the scariest-looking Pokemon on this short list. On the contrary, there have been many sweet moments surrounding this Pokemon in the anime series that make it difficult to see it as a “ruthless beast.” With that said, if it gets introduced in the Monster Hunter Universe with a more realistic character design, I believe it has the potential to be one of the scariest monsters in the series.
The primary reasons for this belief are the abilities that Charizard possesses and its overall size. The burning tail also indicates that monster hunters can’t get too close to it from the back, lest they risk getting burned.
4. Giratina

A Ghost/Dragon-type Pokemon in the Monster Hunter Universe should be enough to scare the slayers in the Monster Hunter Universe. Imagine fighting a dragon that also happens to have certain paranormal abilities. A fight against Giratina in the MHU could be nightmare fuel, especially for those who are entering the MHU anew. It hasn’t had a lot of appearances since its debut in the 2008 Nintendo DS game Pokemon Platinum and the 2008 animated film Pokemon: Giratina and the Sky Warrior.
However, its intimidating appearance suggests that it would be an interesting addition to the monster roster in MH.
5. Guzzlord

Another nightmare fuel in the Monster Hunter Universe would be the addition of Guzzlord. It first appeared in the 2016 Nintendo 3DS games Pokemon Sun and Moon. Not a lot of information is available about its pre- or post-evolution. However, it is a Dark/Dragon-type Pokemon that appears unstoppable for the most part. It also appears constantly hungry, which could be scarier in the MHU considering how almost every beast in that franchise just wants to take a big bite out of the player.
Since Guzzlord’s typical weakness would be Fairy-type Pokemon, it would be difficult to beat it in Monster Hunter.
