Smeargle’s stats make it seem unimpressive at first glance. Its highest stat is its Speed at 75, which is nothing to write home about. However, thanks to its move Sketch, Smeargle is able to copy almost any move in the game. This makes it an impressive support Pokemon that can leave the opponent guessing.

Smeargle’s main role is to support its allies with its wide movepool. Additionally, its ability Moody can give it random stat buffs and debuffs, so a lucky turn can help out with its Speed or defenses.

Smeargle’s Best Moves for VGC

Smeargle is the fastest Spore user in Regulation I (except for Toedscruel, who uses the move last anyway due to its ability Mycelium Might). While it won’t outspeed a lot of threats without a random Moody boost, it can put slower Pokemon like Calyrex Ice Rider to sleep before they move. It can also use Fake Out for a priority flinch and Follow Me for redirection. The latter is especially useful against single-target Ghost-type moves like Lunala’s Moongeist Beam or Flutter Mane’s Shadow Ball.

• Terapagos: Terapagos benefits from a boost from Decorate. Also, as a slow bulky Pokemon, it benefits from Fake Out and Follow Me support.
• Rillaboom: Rillaboom sets up Grassy Terrain, which not only provides passive recovery to Smeargle, but also removes Miraidon‘s Elcetric Terrain, which prevents sleep moves like Spore.
