Ursaluna is a World Champion, having been part of Giovanni Cischke’s 2025 VGC winning team. While it didn’t play a role in the final match, Ursaluna had quite a few traits that made it a decent pick. Its high Attack, decent bulk, and extra damage courtesy of its Ability Guts all make it a great choice in VGC.
How To Use Ursaluna in Pokemon VGC
Ursaluna’s main niche is its physical sweeping capabilities. Its Attack stat of 140 ties with the Paradox Pokemon Iron Hands, and is higher than some Restricted Legendaries like Koraidon and Zamazenta Crowned. However, that’s not all, as it gets a further damage boost if it is inflicted by a non-volatile status thanks to its most commonly used ability Guts. While it is slow, its 130/105/80 defenses are enough for it to take a hit from opposing physical attackers and strike back.
Ursaluna’s Best Moves for VGC
Facade is a must for Ursaluna to have. It’s a Normal-type move, so the bear gets a STAB bonus from it. But if Ursaluna has a status, Facade’s base power of 70 rises to 140. Combined with the Guts boost, Facade is the most spammable move for Ursaluna. It also benefits from having both Headlong Rush and Earthquake. Both moves get a Ground-type STAB boost, but Headlong Rush is a single-target move, while Earthquake targets all Pokemon on the field. As such it helps to have both. Protect is the final move, not only for stalling but also to give Ursaluna a turn to self-inflict a status on itself.

Flame Orb is the item that Ursaluna uses as the Burn from it activates Guts, while the burn damage doesn’t lower Ursaluna’s HP too much compared to Poison.
Ursaluna’s Best Partners for VGC
Here are Ursaluna’s best partners in VGC:
- Lunala: As Lunala is focused more on defense, it appreciates Ursaluna’s ability to deal massive damage.
- Miraidon: Ursaluna can handle Pokemon like Rillaboom and Iron Hands, which Miraidon has trouble dealing with.
- Pivot move users: As Flame Orb activates at the end of your turn, Ursaluna benefits from switching in through pivot moves. Common pivot move users include Incineroar with Parting Shot, Urshifu Rapid Strike with U-Turn, and Miraidon with Volt Switch.
