If you’re playing Prospecting and wondering what to do with those glowing pink crystals next to your money counter, you’re looking at Shards, a special in-game currency used to upgrade your mining abilities. Unlike cash, you can’t buy Shards with Robux, which makes them even more valuable.

This guide will help you understand how to earn Shards faster and spend them wisely to boost your efficiency in the game.

What Are Shards in Prospecting?

Shards are a rare currency, represented by a pink crystal icon at the bottom right of your screen. You collect them by digging and completing quests, and they’re mainly used for buying totems, potions, and unlocking ring slots in the Prospector’s Kit.

While you’ll gain money easily, Shards take more effort. But if you use them right, they’ll significantly improve your grind speed and rewards.

How To Get Shards in Prospecting

1. Earn Shards While Digging

Shards can drop randomly while you dig or sift. The chances are low, but they slightly improve when you’re pulling up epic or rarer minerals. So if you’re aiming for Shards this way, use higher-tier pans and tools to raise your luck stat.

If you can afford it, set up a Sluice Box in areas like Rubble Creek. These filter minerals while you’re offline and give you more chances to earn Shards passively.

2. Complete NPC Quests

The best and most consistent way to get Shards is through quests. NPCs across the world offer tasks that reward you with a bunch of Shards, especially in the early game.

Start with John’s tutorial quests in Rubble Creek Sands. These will give you an early stockpile of Shards to use on helpful upgrades. Unfortunately, game codes won’t provide Shards, but they do offer money that helps you get started.

Best Ways To Use Shards in Prospecting

1. Unlock Ring Slots

The first thing you should do is unlock the Ring Slots in your Prospector’s Kit. You start with none, and you’ll need Shards to open up to four total slots.

Once unlocked, you can craft and equip rings for stat boosts. Whether you want more luck, better dig speed, or modifier boosts, the rings will stack with your current build and make a noticeable difference.

2. Buy Totems

Totems are powerful, temporary boosts that cost Shards. You can place them in dig sites and benefit from them within their area of effect. There are two types:

  • Luck Totem: +2x Luck for 30 minutes (300 Shards)
  • Strength Totem: +2x Dig Speed for 30 minutes (180 Shards)

Use them during Meteor Showers, when rare minerals and modifiers appear more often. You’ll get the most out of your time and tools that way.

3. Buy Potions

Potions are another great way to use your Shards. They offer time-limited stat boosts and can be used during long grinding sessions.

  • Merchant’s Potion: +100% Sell Value for 20 minutes (200 Shards)
  • Greater Luck Potion: +10 Luck for 20 minutes (30 Shards)
  • Greater Capacity Potion: +50 Pan Capacity for 20 minutes (20 Shards)

Use these with Totems or during Meteor Showers for maximum results.

To farm Shards efficiently and make the most of your gameplay:

  • Combine potions, totems, and rings.
  • Dig during Meteor Showers.
  • Use your best pan and shovel combo.
  • Keep an eye out for epic minerals to increase Shard drop chances.

Shards aren’t easy to farm, but if you spend them strategically, you’ll see your stats, speed, and profits go up fast.
