Here is all you need to know about the next evolution of Ubisoft’s iconic title, Rainbow Six Siege X, including new content and how to play.

Ubisoft has officially unveiled Rainbow Six Siege X, the next major expansion for the popular tactical shooter game. This expansion will introduce new content like a new 6v6 game mode and some visual and gameplay overhauls. One of the highlights of the reveal was the shift to a semi-free-to-play model. What this means is that everyone gets to try out most of what the game has to offer. However, they won’t be able to access competitive game modes until they purchase Premium access.
Here is what you need to know about the upcoming Rainbow Six Siege X update.
All You Need To Know About Rainbow Six Siege X
Here is all the important information revealed during the Rainbow Six Siege X showcase at the Atlanta event on March 13, 2025:
New 6v6 Game Mode: Dual Front

The new Dual Front game mode will be available as part of the Siege X expansion. The premise of the game mode is to pit two teams of six operators against each other to attack enemy sectors while also defending their own.
The game mode will also feature an exclusive map called District. What makes this new map unique is that it can change with each update.
Audio Overhaul

Rainbow Six Siege is a game where even the slightest noise can give away your position. This makes sound a crucial element of gameplay. It is a unique mechanic that sets the game apart from other tactical shooters.
Siege X is looking to fine-tune this mechanic by overhauling how spatial audio works in the game. The update enhances the accuracy and clarity of sounds like gunfire and footsteps, making them more distinguishable and directional.
Visual and Gameplay Enhancements

Siege X brings visual upgrades to classic maps, such as Clubhouse, Chalet, Border, Bank, and Kafe Dostoyevsky. You can expect enhanced lighting, shadows, and textures. It even supports up to 4K resolution on compatible systems.
Additionally, gameplay mechanics have also been refined. Destructible elements like gas pipes and fire extinguishers can now cause environmental hazards. Furthermore, Rappel navigation is said to be much smoother to maneuver with upgraded motion capture.
Enhanced Anti-Cheat

To further protect the game from exploits and cheats, Ubisoft is releasing the R6 ShieldGuard anti-cheat system. According to the reveal, it will introduce live security updates. This feature allows the anti-cheat system to operate and receive updates without having to go under maintenance. This is on top of other features that the previous anti-cheat system had.
Additionally, the system includes anti-toxicity measures like an improved reputation system. The goal is to foster a more positive gaming environment by encouraging fair play and positive interactions.
Transition to Free-To-Play

One of the major changes with Rainbow Six Siege X is the transition to a free-to-play model. Starting June 10, new players can access the game for free and will have access to non-competitive game modes like Dual Front, Unranked, and Quick Play. They will also start with 10 free Operators and can unlock as many as 26 Operators as they make progress.
If you want to play Ranked or Siege Cup, you will have to purchase Premium Access. Additionally, you will gain access to more Operators in the game.
Fortunately, for players who already own Rainbow Six Siege before the release of Siege X, they can keep their account progress, including their unlocked Operators, inventory, game modes, and much more. Additionally, they will receive extra veteran rewards to show off their status in the community.
