Resource in Build an Island
Getting ahead in Build an Island means knowing how to unlock, farm, and convert every resource into something useful. Whether it’s crafting Planks, farming Crops, or producing Magmite, every material follows a specific upgrade path. This section walks you through how to get every major resource in the game, with clear instructions and priority paths.
Planks
Unlock the Sawmill by upgrading the path directly from spawn. Feed it 3 Wood to make 1 Plank. If you want to scale faster, unlock the Worker Station to hire Lumberjacks who automatically collect Wood.
Coins
There are three reliable methods to get Coins early and fast:
- Use in-game Codes to get free Coins.
- Unlock the Upgradesmen Station past the Gold Mine. Click the sign nearby after liking the game and joining the group to instantly get 1000 Coins.
- Buy Seeds, sell Crops (especially rare ones), craft furniture, and place Coal Crates in the Gold Mine.
Seeds and Crops
Purchase Seeds from the Merchant. Unlock the Garden plot to the right of the spawn, plant the seeds, and wait for the progress bar to fill before harvesting.

Bricks
Unlock the Stonecutter by expanding right from the Sawmill, then left from the Gold Mine. Requires Wood, Stone, Planks, and Coins. Assign a Miner to generate Stone. The Stonecutter converts 3 Stone into 1 Brick.
Bamboo
Once you have Bricks, move left from the Sawmill and unlock the Upgrade Axe Station. Keep going until you reach an expansion that requires Bricks to access Bamboo. Lumberjacks can also be reassigned to collect Bamboo automatically.
Bamboo Planks
Unlock the Bamboo Sawmill, located right of the Bamboo harvest zone. It converts 5 Bamboo into 1 Bamboo Plank.
Bees and Honey
- Unlock the Beehive area (top-left of the Sawmill).
- Build hives using 30 Planks each.
- Buy Bees from the Merchant (120 Coins).
- Place the Bee in the Hive. One Bee can make 1 Honey, which sells for 40 Coins. You can add multiple Bees per Hive or spread them across 3 Hives for parallel output.
Growth Potion
- Unlock the Growth Potion Station behind the Bamboo Sawmill.
- Requires 100 Bricks, 100 Coins, 100 Bamboo Planks.
- To craft a potion, use 100 Bamboo Planks + 9 Tomatoes. Buy Tomato Seeds from the Merchant and plant them as needed.
Iron Ore
Iron Ore is available after unlocking Bamboo. Expand left from the Stonecutter and Gold Mine. Assign a Miner to start collecting Iron Ore from the three initial deposits.
Iron Bars
Unlock the Furnace by expanding down from the Iron Ore fields and right again.
Input: 10 Iron Ore + 5 Wood = 1 Iron Bar.
Tools
Tools require both Iron Bars and Bricks. Unlock the Toolsmith station through expansions past the Furnace.
Cost: 20 Iron Bars + 65 Bricks = 1 Tool, which sells for 75 Coins.
Cactus
After unlocking Iron Ore, expand left from the Upgradesmen Station to find the Cactus field. Harvest a few plants before progressing to the Loom.
Cactus Fiber
Reach the Cactus Loom Station by expanding left, then right, then left again from the Cactus area. Convert 5 Cacti into 1 Cactus Fiber.
Magmatic Crystal & Magmite
- Unlock the Magmatic Crystal area by expanding left from the Toolsmith using Cactus Fiber, Iron Bars, and Gold.
- Expand again to reach the Magmite Station. Convert 5 Magmatic Crystals + 3 Iron Bars = 1 Magmite.
Magma Logs & Magma Planks
- Start from the Cactus spawn.
- Follow the expansion path around the island, behind the Magmite Station.
- Cut down the first Magma Log tree.
- Two expansions later, unlock the Magma Sawmill. Convert 9 Magma Logs into 1 Magma Plank.
With these steps, you now have every resource path mapped out clearly. Prioritize your unlocks, use workers efficiently, and always keep crafting toward the next material. This is the backbone of progression in Build an Island.
