Odyssey is the newest DLC in Rimworld, and it changes things up drastically. Now, you can fly your Gravships into space, take on brand-new quests out in the orbit, and face off against the Mechanoids. However, leaving the planet’s surface can have long-standing repercussions if you’re not careful.

Amongst the many systems that the developers at Ludeon Studios have introduced through the DLC is the Grav Anchor. It’s a special item that can help you travel off-planet without losing progression on the planet in question. In the following guide, we’ll explore how you can get a Gravity Anchor in Rimworld Odyssey and what it does.

Follow the steps mentioned below to unlock the Grav Anchor schematics and then craft it.

  • Step 1: In your research tree, unlock Basic Gravtech.

  • Step 2: Next, open the Architect Menu to build a Grav Anchor. You will need 300x Plasteel, 80x Gravlite Panel and 5x Advanced Components to build one of these anchors.

  • Step 3: When you have the Grav Anchor, simply place it anywhere on a planet’s surface, preferably in areas with strong defenses. This should protect your anchor from enemy raids.

You can get the materials for Grav Anchor crafting organically by completing the various quests. If you are running low on one or more of the resources, you can try to purchase them from traders.

How To Use a Gravity Anchor in Rimworld Odyssey

The Gravity Anchor serves the crucial purpose of saving a planetary map even when you take off for space in your Gravship. So, if there’s still loot around or other important things you’d like to check out on the map, make sure to place a Grav Anchor. This way, you can return to the planet at any time and simply dive back in where you left off.

Launching your Gravship for space without a Grav Anchor in place causes the game to immediately wipe the map. So, the next time you return, you’ll find a brand-new generated map. Any item or loot you left behind in the last map will disappear.

Keep in mind that you can lose a placed Grav Anchor due to attack by enemies. So, make sure you install the Grav Anchor in a well-defended area with layers of security. Losing the Grav Anchor during a raid would cause the planet’s map to wipe off when you leave for space.
