Feeding pets rarer crops fills their hunger bar faster, which is crucial for high-rarity pets with larger hunger bars.
- Mutated Crops: Crops that have mutations (example: glowing, giant, or other special traits) will naturally restore more hunger in comparison to their normal variants. For instance, if your pumpkin has a mutation applied to it, it will restore more hunger. Mutated crops are therefore a good choice for feeding your pets.
- Size Matters: Larger crops, achieved through upgrades like the watering can or fertilizer, also restore more hunger. A giant mutated rare crop is ideal for maximizing hunger restoration per feeding.

As an example, the Dragon Fruit is one of the best options for high-rarity pets. Its base hunger restoration is already high. If you pair it with a mutation, it restores even more hunger.
