Pet Mutations are coming to Grow a Garden! Learn how to use Pet Mutations as revealed by Jandel in the announcement for the next update.
Jandel, one of the Grow a Garden developers, announced that Pet Mutations will be launching in the next update. The current Prehistoric Event introduced the new DNA Converter mechanic, allowing players to exchange pets for Dinosaur eggs. It seems we will be getting a new machine called the Pet Mutator in the July 12, 2025, update.
Jandel first announced Pet Mutations in a post on the official Discord on July 8, 2025. The official Grow a Garden account on X later posted a screenshot of the announcement as well. Jandel’s message primarily addressed the feedback surrounding recent in-game events. Toward the end, the developer dropped the bomb about Pet Mutations coming to the game.
Grow a Garden Next Update: Everything We Know About Pet Mutations
Not much is known about the next Grow a Garden update. For now, it is just titled Next Week’s Update on the official Roblox page. The only insight we have is from Jandel’s Pet Mutation announcement. Crop Mutations have been part of the game for a long time, with the devs adding new ones in each update. It looks like Pet Mutations will work similarly, giving passive buffs and cosmetic variations to the animals.
Pets need to be level 100 to get the Pet Mutations from the machine. Jandel also announced the release of new gear that will help level up pets while reassuring the players. The exact quote from the developer states:
“That brings me to my last point, this weekend we are going to introduce a new feature to the game Pet Mutations. This is a machine you can put your level 100 pet into and get unique mutations, with passives, buffs and cosmetics… and don’t worry before you ask, we are ADDING craftable and buyable (gear shop) xp boosts so that you can get your pet to level 100”

Tips To Level Up Pets for Pet Mutations
The new gear to help level up pets will release with the update. In the meantime, you can use these tips to level up pets and be ready for the mutations.
Equip these pets in your garden, as they passively boost experience gain for all other pets:
- Cooked Owl
- Blood Owl
- Owl
- Nigh Owl
Capybara: Capybaras prevent hunger loss and grant extra experience to other pets.
Sea Turtle: Having a few Sea Turtles in the garden is also a good idea, as they occasionally grant extra XP to other pets.
Ostrich: If you have a couple of them active, pets hatched from eggs will spawn with increased age.
Starfish: This pet’s trait helps it level up faster. However, this will not help you grow other pets.
