When the game starts, you will have to create your own world. Alternatively, you can also join a friend’s world. Regardless, starting a new world means beginning from scratch. As a new player, you will also have the option to undergo a short tutorial. During this tutorial section, the game will explain how you can build your factory. You will notice a toolbar at the bottom of the screen, with four options, namely Placement, Wire, Pipe, and Delete. While the last option is pretty self-explanatory, you’ll have to understand what the others do.

Placement is your primary build menu. Inside the Placement tab, you’ll discover several categories, including Power, Decorators, and more. When you choose an item from this menu to place, you’ll need to spend some money on it. For instance, if you want to place a Coal Extractor, you have to spend $50 to install each one.

As you keep building and adding more parts to your factory, it will evolve and become bigger. Over time, you’ll need to add even more complex machinery, such as batteries to power the building. Keep collecting the money that the factory operations make to constantly upgrade it and open up new revenue streams.

Controls

The following are the controls for the game on PC:

  • WASD: Movement
  • M1: Place items or structures
  • R: Rotate the structure you’re about to install.
  • Q: Cycle through the other available items in the opened menu.

Money

You will earn money by building various production lines and structures. For instance, completing and powering a coal extraction station will help you earn money. However, aside from power, you also have to connect such operations with a Truck Depot. This particular addition enables your production lines to sell the items and make money.

Research Points

You will have to spend Research Points to unlock better structures or research superior parts for your factory. However, Research Points are limited. You can get more of these by building a Research Station from within the Placement menu. You can open the Research menu by clicking on the blue beaker button on the left side of the screen. You can also see the Research Points necessary to unlock the next research project in the node.

Recipes

Just underneath the Research menu button is a green button that opens up the Recipes menu. From this menu, you can check how to create various items and materials. Many of these are locked when you start playing. As you research more, you’ll discover further recipes, enabling you to upgrade existing projects.
