On August 23, 2025, Roblox reportedly made history after surpassing Steam’s record of most concurrent live players. The weekend saw more than 47 million players log into a game on the platform. The huge surge in players is mostly due to the Admin Abuse Event hosted in Grow a Garden and Steal a Brainrot. These two are undoubtedly the biggest games on Roblox as of right now.
According to statistics shared by @Bloxy_News on X (sourced from RoTrends), the exact number of Roblox players in-game on August 23 reached a peak of 47,296,412. This represents a significant increase from the previous record of 32.6 million, achieved last month. In comparison, Steam’s peak online player count ever, as per SteamDB, is 41,239,880 recorded in March 2025.

“Roblox Is Officially Bigger Than Steam,” Says KreekCraft After Grow a Garden vs Steal a Brainrot Admin Abuse Event
Games like Grow a Garden and Steal a Brainrot have a large player base, rivaling big players like Steam. Grow a Garden itself is perhaps one of the most popular online video games of all time, and peaked at over 23 million concurrent players on August 23. Steal a Brainrot was not far behind, with over 20 million players live at the same time. This is months after Grow a Garden made headlines for rivaling Steam’s Counter-Strike and also beating Fortnite’s record.

The Admin Abuse event was a much-anticipated event hosted by the developers of Grow a Garden and Steal a Brainrot. Jandel and SpyderSammy collaborated for the Admin Abuse, appearing in each other’s games and giving players a variety of rewards.
From special units in Steal a Brainrot to admin-exclusive pets in Grow a Garden, the devs went all out. As a result, millions of players flocked to the games, with content creators such as KreekCraft also getting in on the action.
The collaboration pushed Roblox to its limit, enabling it to finally surpass the gaming giant Steam’s all-time concurrent players number. KreekCraft acknowledged the news on X and claimed, “Roblox is officially bigger than Steam.” However, this is not all.
Some claim that the comparison is not fair, as Steam’s all-time peak number includes players who are playing a game, plus the people who are just online. The Roblox number, on the other hand, only includes players actively in a game.
We did state most concurrent users on a platform, not players in-game. Though, for Roblox, the only data I am aware that proves somebody is at least online is a player being in-game. For Steam, there are trackers that show how many are online total.
