With the Hell Update completely changing and rebalancing abilities in Type Soul, Schrifts have also been reworked. New ones, such as Nimble and Overkill, are currently dominating the meta. That said, some of the older ones are still viable for new Quincies. As a Quincy, Schrifts are your main power system in Type Soul. Your Schrift letter element also determines your Vollstandig, making it a central ability in your Quincy Build.
To that end, we have compiled a tier list of the latest Type Soul Schrifts to give your Quincy character the best chance to defeat enemies. Complete Schrift Tier List for Type Soul
Getting your Schrift is the first major leap in power in your Quincy progression. Before getting into the tier list, here is how you obtain the ability.
How To Get Schrift in Type Soul
After reaching Grade 2 as a Quincy (do mission boards), you have to make your way to the statue in Wandenreich Town and interact with it. Whispers will start to appear on the screen if you are Grade 2. Now you are ready for the next step. The whispers will tell you to complete certain tasks. To make it easier, here is the list of tasks you have to do as a Quincy to get your Schrift:
- Kill two Menos
- Kill an Adjuchas
- Kill five Fishbones
- Three Shinigami Player Kills
- Three Arrancar Player Kills (do it with a friend to make it easy)
Walk back to the statue to get your Schrift. Without further ado, here is the tier list.
S-Tier Schrifts
Here are the best Schrifts in Type Soul as of the Hell Update.
- Nimble: Perhaps the most overpowered Schrift in the game right now. You get three dodges with the T move that last for 5 seconds. Each time you dodge, you gain more speed. The G move is a multi-hit and has to be parried multiple times. Expect this to get nerfed.
- Overkill: You gain passive stats instead of T and G moves. You can boost the passives every time you grip a player. The passives cap at +50% damage, +30% speed, +20% defense, and more, making it one of the more broken Schrifts in Type Soul.
- Heat: Does a lot of damage at long ranges. The T move has the potential to stun, allowing comps. Very versatile and can go with most types of builds.

A-Tier Schrifts
These are decent Schrifts that you can use. Some of them have been powercrept.
- Superstar: Both T and G are amazing, especially for Air Hakuda. The T move also got a new buff. Combined with the Okay, James! Passive, Superstar is a solid Schrift as of the Hell Update.
- Wind: One of the better common-tier Schrifts that has good T and G moves. The T move can both stun enemies and guard break. G and T can be easily tied into a powerful combo as well.
- Explode: The T move makes you jump into the air and stuns the enemy, opening them up to a variety of combos. The G move guard breaks and maintains airtime.
- Deathdealing: A versatile Schrift that can work for Kido, Kenpo, and other builds. The Lethal Dosage passive can deal massive damage in bursts, and the T move is uncounterable.
- Butterfly: This one is viable despite nerfs, with the G move being fast. The T is also good for stuns. Butterfly, overall, is quite fair for combos.
- Balance: Devs have nerfed Balance numerous times. It is still decent, even without hyperarmor. Make sure to use the G move from a distance, as it can be easily canceled. The stun has been nerfed as well.
- Zombie: The T move is a good guard break, and G is a nice counter. But the passive is very difficult to trigger at higher levels.
B-Tier Schrifts
These Schrifts come with decent movesets but suffer from being inconsistent.
- Thunderbolt: Thunderbolt is a solid Schrift but falls off at higher ranks. You have to learn to combo T and G to deal damage, which can be hard to do against good players.
- Gluttony: The T and G moves are good as combo extenders and give you a mix of damage and mobility. However, opponents can parry them quite easily.
- Power: Both T and G are good and deal nice damage. It can be good for Kendo and Hakuda builds, but the Schrift is heavily dependent on combos, making it B-tier.
- Miracle: Both T and G moves can be great when they work and have stunning capabilities. But the T move has a very long windup and can get parried. The G move is inconsistent in its stun capabilities.
- Iron: The T is nice, but Iron’s G move lacks the oomph. It is difficult to combo, thus lagging behind other common Schrifts.
- Visionary: The devs gave this one massive nerfs. The only thing that saves it from C-tier is the way T reduces damage and G gives ultra parry during full Imagination.
C-Tier Schrifts
These Schrifts are towards the low end of the spectrum.
- Compulsory: The G is nothing special in comparison to other Schrifts, and opponents can block your T moves.
- Fear: A similar problem as the movset is not unique and is predictable. The T can stun enemies, but is easily dodged. The G is not that good either.
D-Tier Schrifts
These are not recommended.
- Royal: Both T and G are quite bad in terms of how long they take to charge, allowing others to dodge.
- X-Axis: X-Axis just does not work in the fast-paced melee fights in Type Soul. Pending a big reword, you should not be using this one.
