Voice actor and content creator CDawgVA revealed that he played the role of a Nigerian archer in Age of Empires 2.
Voice actor and Youtuber Connor “CDawgVA” Marc Colquhoun revealed that he did a voice acting role for free for the game Age of Empires 2. He recently appeared on the Press ESC podcast hosted by Twitch streamer Rachell “Valkyrae” Hofstetter where he revealed his “secret” role in the classic strategy game.
Valkyrae was interviewing CdawgVA and asked him about his voice-acting debut. Connor told her that she would not love what he had to say about his first video game voice-acting role. He told her about voicing a Nigerian archer in the game much to everyone’s surprise. The voice actor revealed that his lines were patched out of the game. The game does not directly credit him for the role and the studio did not compensate him either.
CDawgVA was skeptical about the role because of how the voice talent studio approached him. The studio held a competition and allegedly did not compensate him with money. Instead, he got a code for one of the Age of Empires 2 expansions. The voice actor joked about how the studio did not offer a game code for his efforts.
CDawgVA Talks About His Age of Empires Voice Acting Gig
Valkyrae researched CDawgVA’s career and asked him about his work in video games. She knew that Conno worked on Age of Empires 2 and wanted him to share more details. The voice actor responded:
“This is like nine-ten years ago, Age of Empires 2 was holding a voice acting competition, where they were looking for voice actors for their game. And I auditioned, and they wanted a Nigerian accent.”
He revealed that it was “totally normal” for White voice actors to fill the roles of characters from other cultures. He added:
“I Googled Nigerian accent, there was one YouTube video at the time with a Nigerian accent. Like real. And I just listened to it and I was like, ‘Yeah, I got it.’”
The developers allegedly didn’t include his voice lines when Age of Empires 2 was released. However, they contacted Connor two years later and told him his lines were included in the DLC. However, due to unknown reasons, the developers removed his line around five years after the DLC’s release.
Connor’s Other Roles in Video Games
Most of CDawgVA’s fans know him for his YouTube videos, podcasts, and Twitch streams. He has been voice acting since 2012 and his first role was in Dragon Ball Z Abridged (anime) where he played the roles of Gashew and Spice. He also worked in other popular anime like Hunter X Hunter, Hellsing Ultimate, and Hyrule Warriors.
He took up his first video game project with Age of Empires 2. He has also worked on titles like Popup Dungeon, Omega Strikers, and Card En-Ciel. Connor hosts a podcast with fellow content creators Garnt “Gigguk” Maneetapho and Joey “Anime Man” Bizinger. The trio appeared in the popular game Honkai: Star Rail in 2023.
