The Ashen Winds is one of the world’s Adventure Mode events at the Sea of Thieves. It offers generous rewards for players who can take on the challenge. However, this world event won’t be a walk in the park for many as it introduces enemies called Ashen Lords, elite commanders transformed by the skeleton lord, Captain Flameheart. You will need to be familiar with their arsenal and infernal phases to formulate an effective strategy to beat the Ashen Lords.

Here is a guide for the Sea of Thieves Ashen Winds world event.

What is Ashen Winds in Sea of Thieves?

The Ashen Winds is one of the rotating world events in the Sea of Thieves.

The goal is to locate and defeat these Ashen Lords summoned by Captain Flameheart. These enemies can pose a challenge as they feature varying combat patterns and phases. With each phase, these enemies become more aggressive and powerful, making them increasingly difficult to overcome.

Alternatively, you can launch this world event through the Quest Table on the ship. This content was introduced in the Season 11 update of the game and is be added to the rotating pool of world events in the game.

How to Find Ashen Lords in Sea of Thieves?

Ashen Lords can spawn over islands in one of the three regions, The Shores of Plenty, The Ancient Isles, and The Devils Roar, in the Sea of Thieves. You can spot them easily as there will be a large red tornado in their spawn point. Only one of the four Ashel Lords can spawn on the island:

  • Captain Grimm
  • Red Ruth
  • Old Horatio
  • Warden Chi

Once you defeat the boss, they drop treasure and a unique weapon that you can use or sell to the Order of Souls or Reaper’s Bones.

How To Beat Ashen Winds World Event?

Before anything else, keep in mind that the difficulty varies depending on the size of your crew. The more members you have, the stronger the enemies become. Make sure you are well-equipped for the battle.

Another thing to note is to not let your ship get too close to the island where the Ashen Lords will spawn. Your ship might receive damage from their attacks if you fight too close to it.

Ashen Lords Attacks

Here is the list of attacks that the Ashen Lords will use during the battle:

  • Summoning: The Ashen Lords will spawn hordes of undead skeletons to attack you. These skeletons are not that strong and can be easily killed with a swing swing of your weapon.
  • Ash Cloud: Hides in a cloud of smoke that can also be dangerous if you are close enough to the smoke. Make sure you prepare some food to regenerate lost health and keep away from the Ash Cloud radius.
  • Fire Boulder: Throws a flaming boulder to a player. You can easily dodge this but unless you let yourself get overwhelmed by the skeleton minions.
  • Melee: Ashen Lords have two types of melee attacks. The first one is a normal melee attack and the second one is a lunge forward attack.
  • Fire Breath: Braths out fire from their mouth like a flamethrower. You can easily dodge this due to its short range.
  • Shockwave: Jumps up and lands on the ground creating a shockwave that knocks back anyone in range. This also deals a ton of damage so make sure to dodge this attack.
  • World’s End: Ashen Lords can summon flaming boulders from the sky and drop them to the ground. This attack can be deadly if you get hit so make sure to find shelter under rocks or structures.

Now that you are familiar with the attacks they can make, here is how you can beat them in combat

Phase 1 & 2

The first two phases are quite similar. The Ashen Lord will use a wide variety of attacks, except World’s End. Do not let the skeleton minions overwhelm you in this fight. Make sure you clear them out every now and then. Do not be afraid to use guns in this battle as these summons can drop ammo pouches. However, always bring a reliable melee weapon with you for close-quarters combat.

Once a phase ends, there will be a brief moment where the Ashen Lord will kneel down and try to regain strength. Use this opportunity to focus your attacks on them while they are not retaliation. They won’t fight back until they are back on their feet.

If you are fighting with a large crew, the food supplies found on the island might not be enough. Make sure you bring your own supply crates in case of emergency.

Phase 3

In the final phase, the Ashen Lord will start using the World’s End attack. Make sure you take note of areas you can use as cover. However, do not attempt to go near the water as they are boiling hot during this attack so you will take damage. Alternatively, you can use your ship to fire cannons to help deal damage to the Ashen Lord. However, be careful when docking your ship too close, as it can be damaged by enemy attacks.
