Should You Play Metal Gear Solid Delta Snake Eater in Legacy or New Style?

Metal Gear Solid Delta styles itself for the newbies and the veterans, the new and the legacy. So, which one should you play?

MGSD Snake Eater has implemented the Legacy or New Style in the game to cater to both of its demographics. The difference between the two feature changes of control schemes, and camera angles (and slightly more). It maintains the series’ experience for older players, while keeping the newer ones fairly invested with modern controls and cameras. So, how do you determine which style to play in Metal Gear Solid Delta Snake Eater?

If you’re a player fairly new to the Metal Gear franchise, you should play the game in the New Style. If you’ve played the Metal Gear Solid Games since the beginning, the Legacy mode might be your preference. You are given the option to choose from both modes at the beginning of the game. However, you can change it in-game too, with a slight disadvantage.

The New Style Mode

The New Style features the industry standard for action games involving guns, a freely movable third-person over-the-shoulder camera and the usual shooting controls. The remake has been visually improved in every aspect, from facial features to environments and cutscenes. You can play with the graphics in its full glory without the legacy style filter.

The New Style control scheme has faster combat that is similar to the previous games, such as MGSV Phantom Pain; however, the game tries to balance it out with its bullet drop mechanic. You play the game mostly in third-person, and aiming down your sights puts you in first-person for more accuracy. However, the game presents itself as more challenging than the legacy style.

In brief, the New Style in Metal Gear Solid Delta Snake Eater provides a similar experience of the newer Metal Gear Solid Series.

The Legacy Style Mode

However, the legacy style is meant for players who have played the original games and are more comfortable with the slow approach style of playing. This mode features a top-down fixed camera and hit scan shooting (no bullet drop). The most prominent change is the control scheme, which is the same as the original.

You are also given the option to add the older game’s filter that tries to simulate the original’s ambience. The game is also a bit easier than the New Style, as it has slower combat and first-person aiming. The fixed camera and the shooting might not cater to the newer players of the franchise, and even if they want to try it, a controller is recommended over Keyboard and Mouse.

A couple of changes to the UI also feature in both styles. With the New Style approaching a minimalistic UI and some quality of life features, it follows the modern approach of the MGS games. However, the legacy style retains its original UI, with a higher resolution and some newer icons.

Can You Switch Both Styles in-game?

You can switch between the styles while playing. But Metal Gear Solid Delta Snake Eater will take you to the last checkpoint instead of letting you progress from the same spot.
