Split Fiction is the latest action adventure co-op developed by Hazelight Studios. They have previously developed some fan-favorite couch co-ops, such as It Takes Two and A Way Out. Split Fiction is releasing on March 6, 2025, on PC. Xbox Series X/S, and PlayStation.

Split Fiction can either be played as an offline couch co-op or cross-platform while connected to the internet. Unlike console owners, players on PC have the choice to either play with a controller or a keyboard and mouse setup. Either both players can use controllers, or one can use a controller while the other uses a keyboard and mouse.

We recommend using controllers to play Split Fiction. While the story experience remains the same, controllers can elevate your gameplay.

Why You Should Use a Controller To Play Split Fiction

Like Hazelight Studio’s previous title, It Takes Two, Split Fiction highly strikes as a controller game. If you play the game on a controller and then a keyboard and mouse setup, you will notice some slight issues with the latter. With full controller support, you will be able to control your characters better, and your actions will also be more precise. The keyboard and mouse experience is not quite this clean.

Moreover, immersion is extremely important when it comes to couch co-ops. Keyboard and mouse users miss the vibrations of the controller. Many narrative situations use the controller vibrations to make you feel the gravity of the situation. Emotional tension can easily be elevated to showcase tense moments well.

Can You Play Split Fiction on a Keyboard and Mouse Setup?

You absolutely can still play Split Fiction on a keyboard and mouse. The game has the function to utilize both peripherals when played on PC. So if you do not have a controller but wish to play the game, keyboard and mouse is always an available option for you.
