Learn how to find and use the Combination Lock Dial in Silent Hill F to solve the Shrine Vault puzzle and progress through Chapter 2.

The Combination Lock Dial in Silent Hill F is a piece you absolutely need in Chapter 2 while exploring the Dark Shrine Path. You will encounter the Shrine Vault door, but one slot of the lock is clearly missing. That missing part is the Combination Lock Dial. Without it, you cannot input the symbols you collect, which means your progress halts right there.
In this article, we will explore how to get the Combination Lock Dial in Silent Hill F and its usage.
How To Get the Combination Lock Dial in Silent Hill F
When you reach the Dark Shrine Path, follow the Fox Mask character until you come across the Shrine Vault. The lock is incomplete, and you will need clues to proceed. The process begins near the Inari shrine, where a doll offers you a riddle. The content of the riddle changes with the difficulty level you are playing on.

Once you interpret the riddle, your task is to identify the correct Ema plaques. These are small wooden boards found in racks scattered across the shrine area. The trick is that the dial is always attached to the third correct Ema you find. Until you check all three, you won’t get the dial.
- In Story Mode, you will eventually need crane, serpent, and tortoise Ema. The crane plaque, specifically, carries the dial on its reverse.
- In Hard Mode, you focus on lightning, decayed trees, and kudzu. The crane symbol again becomes the one to flip for the dial.
- In Lost in the Fog, the Yokai-themed plaques, carriage, umbrella, and kettle must all be located, with the dial fixed to the last one.
It’s worth noting that the locations of these Ema racks shift between playthroughs. This means you should carefully check each rack on both the western and southern sides of the path.
Only after you have examined all three correct plaques does the dial appear. If you miss one, the final plaque does not provide the item.
How To Use the Combination Lock Dial in Silent Hill F
After you have the dial, return to the Shrine Vault. Insert it into the empty slot to complete the lock. From here, use the clues written in your journal to input the correct sequence of symbols. The lock responds only when the order is accurate, so double-check the riddle notes before confirming.
Once opened, the vault reveals the Stone Key, which leads you further into the story and opens access to the Ebisugaoka Fields. At this stage, you should also make sure you have picked up anything else from the shrine area before using the dial, because the puzzle section closes after the vault is solved.
