Everything you need to know about Silent Hill F’s gameplay structure and how to save your progress during the main story.

Silent Hill F introduces a lot of new gameplay-oriented features to the series. While most games in the series feature a hybrid melee and ranged combat, Silent Hill F focuses exclusively on melee. Additionally, the game’s story is also quite different in structure compared to past Silent Hill titles. With the latest game, Konami and developer Neobards Entertainment essentially wanted to modernize the series while staying faithful to the franchise’s core values. This extends to the smaller aspects of the game as well, such as saving story progress.
While the game does have a rather generous “autosave” feature, there’s also a manual option. However, manual saving in Silent Hill F can be a tad confusing, especially for newcomers to the series. Here’s everything you need to know about Silent Hill F’s gameplay and how to save your progress.

How To Save Story progress in Silent Hill F?

There are essentially two different ways to save your progress in Silent Hill F. The first method is relying on the game’s autosave, which works quite well, but is limited to key story sequences. Autosave only saves your progress when you hit a specific story checkpoint. While it works quite well for the opening chapters, where the story takes precedent over gameplay, in later chapters, relying on autosaves isn’t viable. Some of the later chapters, such as the one in Ebisugaoka Middle School, are quite lengthy and require a ton of backtracking.
During chapters like these, autosave isn’t very helpful, as it only saves during specific intervals. This is where the second method comes into play, saving using the Shrines. As you explore Ebisugaoka, you will find plenty of Shrines littered across the town. These Shrines serve as manual checkpoints, where you can save your progress. Furthermore, at these Shrines, you can also upgrade Hinako’s base attributes, change her outfit, and craft Omamori charms.
Shrines are present in all key locations of Silent Hill F, including the otherworld (Dark Shrine). Additionally, unlike past Silent Hill games or other traditional survival horror games, there’s no limit to the number of manual saves you can create in Silent Hill F.
How To Craft Omamori Charms in Silent Hill F?

You can craft Omamori Charms at the Shrines. However, to craft a charm, you will need Faith. You can acquire Faith by sacrificing (Enshrine) consumables at a Shrine. It should be noted that Faith is also used to upgrade Hinako’s attributes. Omamori crafting starts at 400 Faith. However, as you craft more Omamori charms, the cost increases exponentially. Furthermore, you can also obtain specific Omamori charms during exploration. As such, crafting isn’t a necessity in Silent Hill F.
However, some of the most powerful charms (such as the ones that increase HP, Stamina, and Sanity) can only be obtained by crafting.
