Skate is one of the most-awaited releases in the series. That’s because it’s the only Skate from EA in the last 15 years, that is, after Skate 3 in 2010. So players can enjoy the game now, as it is currently out on early access. Naturally, fans are excited. Unfortunately, some players are having a hard time playing the game as it refuses to let them join their friends on other platforms. They are met with a crossplay not working error on Skate. In this article, we are sharing some fixes you can try to solve this issue.

Potential Causes Behind the Crossplay Not Working in Skate

When users try to join their friends on a different platform, they are met with either Error 852204050 or 528614044. The ID Tag associated with the error is ID_ONLINE_ERROR_CROSSPLAY_DISABLED_UNRESOLVABLE. Essentially, the client failed to authenticate with the other clients in the game server. Below, you will find some solutions you can try.

1) Download and Install the Latest Patch

EA is probably working on this and may have already published a patch by the time you read this. Therefore, you should check for an update and apply it before trying again. We expect this patch to contain some vital fixes for the game.

2) Restart the Game on All Devices

Skate may fail to load some components internally, which is probably why it fails to authenticate with other clients on EA’s servers. However, it’s hard to tell which device has failed to authenticate. Therefore, we recommend that you and all your friends restart the game at least once before trying to join them again.

3) Clear Any Custom DNS Settings

You may have some custom DNS configured on your system, which is preventing the game client from contacting the EA server. Flushing the DNS settings should fix it. Here’s what you need to do:

a) PC

  • Right-click on the Start Menu at the bottom-left corner and choose Windows Terminal/PowerShell (Admin).
  • When it asks for admin rights, click yes.
  • Type ipconfig /flushdns and press Enter on your keyboard.
  • Try relaunching Skate.

b) Xbox

  • Launch Settings and head over to Settings > General > Network settings > Advanced settings > DNS settings.
  • Next, if it is set to manual, change it to Automatic.
  • If not, you should select Manual, add some random one-digit number, and then reselect Automatic.

This should reconfigure the Internet and flush and old DNS settings that may have lingered on.

c) PlayStation

  • Launch Settings and head over to Settings > Network.
  • Next, click on the settings button under the Network tab and then select Setup Internet Connection.
  • In this new page, click on the network connection that’s connected to this device.
  • Next, press the Options button on your controller and select Advanced Settings.
  • Next, if it is set to manual, change it to Automatic.
  • If not, you should select Manual, add some random one-digit number, and then reselect Automatic.

Apply each fix serially in the order we have provided to fix Skate’s crossplay not working issue. Now, relaunch Skate and you should be able to join your friends without any issues.
