Smith is among the many Grind Tricks in EA’s latest Skate. The move makes your character sail along a rail or similar surface with their skateboard in style, turning an obstacle into a path. Furthermore, to perform it, you will need to find specific areas and learn the controls. The latter is not the easiest, but it is doable with enough practice and proper timing.

In this guide, we will walk you through how to perform a Smith in Skate consistently and without any issues.

The first step in doing a Smith in Skate is to find something you can use to perform a grind. While any curb in San Vansterdam can work in theory, we recommend going for rails, as they are easier to operate on in this context. Pick up your keyboard and find a staircase with metal rails in the city. Thankfully, there are plenty of them, so you will have no trouble. Alternatively, you can also try going up certain buildings for a good place to do a Smith.

After finding your preferred spot or rails, you can focus on the trick itself. Note that to perform a grind, you first need to jump slightly and be in mid-air, so find a slightly elevated platform for that. Then, select the stance of your choice since the move is dependent on the way you approach it. However, moves such as Hippie Jump do not work.

After jumping, flick your analog stick to the side and then scoop it upwards in a motion that looks like a quarter-circle. While this won’t be difficult for veterans, newcomers might struggle. We recommend a lot of practice to perfect it. If done successfully, your character will grind on the chosen rail or surface with the back of their skateboard while the front of the board remains dipped forward. Remember that pace helps here, and performing this trick while maintaining fast momentum makes it much easier.

Do not worry if you fall a few times, as this is a tricky move to perform. Grind tricks in Skate are quite difficult to begin with, so instead of losing hope, take your board and try again until you succeed. We also recommend getting a run-up before you hit the rail to build up pace and momentum.
