Rainbow Six Siege has a wide selection of operators to pick from, each with its playstyle and equipment. While the roster is large, all operators tend to fit in a set few roles. You have the entry, the soft breacher, the one or two hard breachers, and the utility clear/flex. While most of these roles are covered in most games, the soft breachers are often overlooked.

Soft breachers such as Buck and Sledge help you break through soft walls. These operators help make rotates, and line-of-sights and facilitate the overall push. They also come with a powerful arsenal of weapons, allowing them to follow the entry and wreak havoc on the defense. While both Buck and Sledge are S-Tier operators in their own right, the need for hard breachers and entries often puts you in a tough spot. You’re often left with just one slot for a soft breacher and have to pick one between Buck and Sledge.

In such a tough spot, with just one operator to pick, we recommend picking Sledge. It’s a close call between the two operators, but Sledge edges it out due to overall flexibility. We shall discuss this in detail below.

Why You Should Pick Sledge As Your Soft Breacher in Rainbow Six Siege

As stated earlier, it is a close call between the two operators, but Sledge barely edges it out. Sledge and Buck both excel in soft breach, but Sledge comes with the added benefit of carrying frag grenades with him. Additionally, Sledge can create rotates on walls to improve movement across the map and toward the defender site. He can use grenades to push out roamers from rat spots and kill them.

Moreover, as you close in on sight, he can use the second grenade to take care of any banshees, shields, or barbed wire. He is no slouch in terms of gunsights either, with his L85A2 being a respectable weapon. He is a near-perfect operator in every aspect.

Buck operates at a similar level and can create rotates, while also easily winning gunfights. His lack of grenades makes him a tad bit weaker in terms of clearing utility, but he makes up for it with the ability to use his shotgun attachment interchangeably with his rifle.

There’s no wrong choice here. If you’re playing in a 5-stack setup, we recommend bringing Buck. But if you’re starting and playing with strangers, Sledge is a lot more flexible and the better pick.
