The best spot to gather clay early game is to till the sand at the beach or the dirt in the mines. These spots offer the highest amount of uncovered ground without worrying about running out of space. Moreover, mines have a higher-than-usual rate of clay drops. However, the best gathering spot for clay is the Ginger Island Dig Site, a place that you unlock very late in the game.
