In this guide, we will explore how you can equip and begin using the Watering Can in Tales of the Shire and why it’s important.

In Tales of the Shire, you will spend a considerable amount of time gathering ingredients for dishes that you need to prepare and feed to Bywater’s many residents. Getting these recipes right is crucial in strengthening your relationships with them and unlocking more rewards. While some of the ingredients you can forage or buy, others you can only grow in your garden. So, farming becomes one of the major activities that you’ll do in the game.
And, as every farmer knows, you have to take care of your crops before you can harvest them. Watering the crops is one of the simplest ways of doing this. That is why you need to understand how to equip and use the Watering Can in Tales of the Shire.
How To Equip the Watering Can in Tales of the Shire

Early on in the game, specifically during the From Small Things quest, you will be asked to equip the watering can. However, a quick search around your homestead and the garden reveals that there isn’t a Watering Can to pick up. Although it sounds confusing, you don’t need to acquire the item physically. Instead, you can access it from your Tool Wheel. If you’re on the keyboard, press T to bring up the wheel. If you’re using a controller, pressing up on the D-pad will do the same thing.
With the Tool Wheel visible, simply select the Watering Can on the right-hand side. Now, you can simply hold the Watering Can in the direction of your crops to water them. However, the water inside isn’t unlimited and will run out eventually. Thankfully the game allows you to refill the same.

How To Refill the Watering Can in Tales of the Shire
After watering a few plants, the water in your Watering Can will run out. When this happens, you can simply walk down to the lake near your homestead and fill the can back up. It’s possible that the process works regardless of which of the many lakes you visit in Bywater. However, we’ve only tested it on the lake near the character’s home. With the can refilled, you now head back to the garden and continue watering the rest of your crops. Your plants won’t die if you do not water them. However, watering your crops will ensure they grow faster and are ready to harvest sooner.
