In Tales of the Shire, gardening is more than a pastime. It’s a critical game mechanic that you need to master to gather some of the many ingredients required in cooking your dishes. Most of the items you get from your crops aren’t available through foraging or by any other means. So, you have to maintain a proper garden that includes a variety of crops if you want to progress in the game.

However, the game starts off with you having access to only a small garden space. While it might seem big enough at that point, you’ll soon start running out of space as the game progresses. Soon, it’ll become clear to you that a bigger garden is a necessity. In this guide, we’ll explore how you can expand your garden in Tales of the Shire.

You won’t be able to add space to your garden for quite some while. At one point in the game’s campaign, you will get a mission to establish four clubs: Foraging, Cooking, Fishing, and Gardening. Establishing and improving this last club is your key to getting a bigger garden space. For the Gardening Club, you’ll need to speak with Sam Cotton and convince him that Rosie Cotton is capable enough to lead the Gardening Club of Bywater. Once that’s done, the Gardening Club will be officially in business.

After that, you’ll have to complete a few tasks for the club in question. Some of the tasks involve planting a variety of crops or harvesting a certain amount of a specific crop. Make sure you head to the mission boards of the club, which you can easily find in the Village Square. Completing the special tasks on this board will help you progress much quicker. As you keep doing these tasks, you’ll continue to level up the Gardening Club itself. After gaining every new level, speak with Rosie to receive certain rewards. Eventually, she will offer to open up a blocked path behind your shire home, which leads to additional gardening space.
