In this guide, we take a look at how you can start fishing in Tales of the Shire and where you can find the different fish.

Tales of the Shire lets you pursue a variety of activities to pass the time, all of which are more or less relaxing. Fishing is one such activity that helps immerse you in the calmness of Shire life. Besides the relaxation, fishing can also help you collect cooking materials. While you can easily start fishing, mastering the mechanic can take a bit of practice. So, with that in mind, let’s start our guide on fishing in Tales of the Shire.
Fishing in Tales of the Shire: How To Do It

After completing a few of the early main game quests, you’ll meet Old Noakes. The old NPC will hand you your first fishing rod and give you a brief introduction to fishing. Initially, there are only two spots where you can fish. However, as you progress through the game, more fishing spots will eventually open up. For now, you only have access to Stone Bridge Pool and Ruby’s Pond.
To begin fishing, you will first need to equip the fishing rod. Open your tool wheel and select the rod from there. With the fishing rod equipped, proceed toward the edge of the docks and cast your line. Wait patiently for a fish to bite, then press the right trigger to start reeling it in. During this time, you need to keep the circle that appears on-screen in the middle of the blue arc.
However, the circle also changes color over time. When it turns red, you must stop reeling in the fish until it returns to green. Then, restart the reeling process. If you continue reeling while the circle is red, the line can snap, and the fish will escape.
As you unlock new fishing spots, you’ll be able to catch new varieties of fish. There are 31 variants in the game, and each appears only at certain fishing spots. You can open the Journal and move to the encyclopedia tab to find out where each type of fish can be found. Based on this information, head to the appropriate location to catch that fish. Keep in mind that some fish also have seasonal conditions, meaning they are more abundant during specific seasons.

How To Use the Fish You Catch
As we said earlier, you can use the fish you catch to prepare meals. Different fish types will help you make different kinds of food items. However, fish aren’t just important for cooking. You can also sell your catch and earn a hefty amount of money. This is a great trick to use, especially during the early hours of the game when you’re low on funds. Since there isn’t a stamina bar, you can fish as many times as you want and then simply take your haul to a trader and sell it off.
