Foraging is an important part of Tales of the Shire, simply because you can get many integral ingredients for your dishes by exploring Bywater. Whatever you forage goes into your backpack, and you can use that to carry all of the items back to your home’s pantry. Initially, the size of your backpack does not seem like much of a hindrance. You have 10 spots available in the backpack by default, and that feels enough at first.

However, as you progress further in the game, you will eventually be foraging and run out of space to keep the items. That is why it is crucial to unlock more backpack space in Tales of the Shire.

The quest to increase your backpack size involves two phases. Let’s understand what these are.

Establishing the Clubs

You will need to progress a fair bit into the game’s main quest before you get the option to get more space for your backpack. The only way to expand your backpack is to complete quests for the Foraging Club. However, you can only establish the different clubs in the game when you complete a series of missions within the Becoming a Village tale. You will eventually reach a point where the residents will task you with establishing the various clubs. Next, you will need to do the following:

  • Convince Lily Cotton to head the Cooking Club.
  • Speak with Old Noakes to lead the Fishing Club
  • Convince Farmer Cotton that Rosie Cotton can head the Gardening Club
  • Convince Delpinium that the Bywater residents truly want a Foraging Club.

Leveling up Foraging Club

Once the clubs are active, you will need to level up the Foraging Club to Level 2. You can achieve this in two ways:

  • You can track down the tasks posted on the Club Boards. Completing these tasks will earn you significant points toward leveling up the club.
  • You can also complete activities for the club in question. For the Foraging Club, simply gather nuts, mushrooms, and other items in the wild to finish such activities and gain points to improve the club level.

After reaching Level 2 with the Foraging Club, you will need to speak with Delpinium. As a reward for your performance, she will give you the backpack expansion, granting you additional slots to store your foraged goods.
