In this guide, we’ll explore whether there is any way to save Molly in The Alters. Molly is the sheep that you create in the game.
The Alters isn’t a game only about survival on a harsh planet. It also forces you to build strong relationships with the alternate versions of the main character, Jan Dolski. You’ll need their help to get off this ticking time bomb of a planet and get back to Earth. Along the way, you will create and then work alongside your alters.
However, not all of your companions at the base will be human. You’ll also have a pet sheep, Molly. You can check in on her from time to time and pat her on the head. However, during Act 2, you’ll suddenly notice Molly’s health deteriorating quickly. Eventually, the sheep dies, and there is no way to prevent Molly’s demise.
In the following article, we’ll take a look at Molly’s death and why it’s a critical point in the overall game plot.
Why You Can’t Save Molly in The Alters?
As we said before, the game simply doesn’t let you save Molly. Even if you have both Jan Scientist and Jan Doctor in your crew, the alters won’t be able to help the sheep, and she ends up succumbing to an unknown disease. You won’t be able to rescue her because her death plays a huge role in the overall narrative. Once the sheep dies, Jan Scientist will ask you to perform an autopsy on the animal. You can do this in the form of a research task.
After the autopsy, scientists will reveal that Molly died due to some strange issues in her head. He’ll then request you to build an MRI machine and get all of the Alters scanned. After you have built this machine and the alters undergo the scan, it’s revealed that all of them have the same brain issue. So, all of them are on the brink of death.
This revelation greatly lowers their morale and sends you scurrying to find a possible cure that could save the alters from untimely death. So, Molly’s death sets up the biggest choice in the game – whether you should choose the Tabula Rasa solution or pick Lena’s treatment. Regardless of your decision, you will leave many of your alters extremely upset and annoyed at you.

Where To Find Molly’s Grave in The Alters?
Although you can’t save Molly in The Alters, you can visit her grave if you wish to say goodbye. After the autopsy is complete, you can head southwest from your base to locate the little grave for the sheep. Your team also seems to have carved out a headstone for the deceased animal.
