In this guide, we’ll explore how you can deal with radiation in The Alters. Is there any way to avoid or minimize its effects?

The alien planet where you crash-land in The Alters is anything but hospitable. The impending sunrise is your biggest concern since its rays can immediately vaporize you if you don’t act fast enough. However, there are much more immediate dangers as well. One of those is the possibility of exposing yourself to intense radiation. And, the game doesn’t outright tell you the various ways in which you could become irradiated, making it even more difficult to figure out for new players.
In this guide, we’ll explore how radiation in The Alters works and the various ways in which you can deal with this threat.
Radiation in The Alters: How Can You Get Radiation Sickness?

There isn’t just one way in which you can suffer radiation poisoning in the game, but several. It is important for you to understand what each of these methods are so that you can take effective precautions.
- You will suffer from radiation poisoning if you remain outside your base past a certain time at night. Initially, the radiation curfew will begin at 9 pm. However, this curfew will advance to 8 pm as you progress through the game.
- If you stand around in places that have deposits of Enriched Metal
- Heading into an Anomaly while exploring the planet.
- Running out of Radiation Filters for your base
- Stepping foot outside your base during Magnetic Storms.
As you can see, you can avoid most of these radiation sources by simply being careful and having plenty of resources at hand. However, in some cases, you might slip up and get radiation poisoning.

How To Reduce and Prevent Radiation in The Alters

If you are already irradiated, you can always get back to the safety of your base. Staying indoors with an active Radiation Filter will eventually cause your radiation levels to drop. However, this is a time-consuming process that doesn’t happen in just a few minutes. A much faster route to cure radiation is to build the Infirmary module inside your base. Then, sleep on a bed inside the Infirmary to cure your radiation poisoning overnight.
It is always better to take precautions for radiation rather than seeking a cure after. The game offers several ways to prevent radiation poisoning as well. For instance, you can research the Suit Upgrade I early on, which provides an additional 20% radiation resistance.
Another useful research option in this regard is the Radiation Repulsor. Crafting it will require a Planetary Sample, but if you choose to go ahead with it, you can create the Radiation Repulsor module in your base. If you invest in the module, you might even reach a point where your base will no longer require Radiation Filters to keep its residents safe from radiation poisoning.
