In The Alters, you will need to explore and salvage resources from the inhospitable planet where you crash-land. However, there are several threats that can stop you from doing so. One of the major challenges is the presence of anomalies in various places. These are entities that can inflict you with radiation poisoning if you come into contact with them.
Anomalies often block off important paths where you can collect valuable materials or items. So, it is crucial to devise a way to get rid of these during your travels. In this guide, we’ll explain how you can destroy anomalies in The Alters.
How To Destroy Anomalies in The Alters
You won’t have the ability or the tool necessary to destroy these entities from the beginning. Instead, you’ll need to work your way towards a specific quest in the game that will introduce you to a way of eliminating the anomalies. During Act 1, you will get the Strange Phenomena when you first encounter the anomalies. The quest will encourage you to find someone who might know more about these entities.
At this juncture, you’ll need to create Jan Scientist if you haven’t done so already. Once the Alter joins your team, speak with them about your findings. They will direct you to perform some more research on them. You will need to head to the northern part of the map, close to the Organics Deposit. Once you interact with and study the distorted anomaly in this area, you’ll then need to report your findings to Jan Scientist once more.
Creating the Luminator
At this stage, Jan Scientist will ask you to research the Internal Analysis Tool. Once this research is done, head back to Jan Scientist, and he’ll tell you of his brilliant invention, the Luminator. After that, visit the workshop to craft this particular tool. You will need 20x Rapidium and 20x Metal to complete its fabrication. The Luminator can effectively destroy all anomalies that you’ll find early on in the game, allowing for free exploration.

How To Use the Luminator
Whenever you find an anomaly, you can aim the Luminator at its core and charge it up. Then fire a shot to destroy the anomaly from a safe distance. However, keep in mind that each shot from the Luminator drains almost one whole bar of your available charge. So, it’s best to use the item sparingly, or you will be left without any charge.
Also, every anomaly that you destroy will drop ALX material cores. These are extremely useful for a variety of reasons. For instance, you can refine them into other materials. Later on in the game, you can also research upgrades for the Luminator. These upgrades will make the tool more effective at taking down the anomalies you come across.
