In this guide, we’ll explore how to increase the base size in The Alters. Your base is what protects you from the harsh environment.
The Alters is a base-building survival simulation where you’ll need to constantly add modules to the wheel-shaped base. During the initial hours of the game, you will likely have plenty of space to install the different rooms. However, as The Alters progresses, you’ll quickly run out of room for further expansion. Fortunately, there is a mechanic in the game that allows you to increase the base size in The Alters. In this guide, we’ll explore how you can do that and ensure there’s always enough space for additional modules.
How To Increase the Size of Your Base in The Alters
To increase the base size, you will first need to increase the Qubit Levels for the special computer. When your Qubit Level increases to 2, you can finally start expanding your base. For this, simply follow the steps mentioned below:
- Step 1: Open the menu.
- Step 2: Go to the Research tab.
- Step 3: Choose the Base menu within this tab, and you should now notice the Base Expansion II research.
- Step 4: Click on the research to expand your base.
You can research and unlock further base expansions as your Qubit Level increases. With each expansion, the space available in your base will increase significantly. Besides that, the Organics tank size will also increase. Keep in mind that you’ll need a larger group of Organics to move the base at the end of every act of the game.
Here’s how each base expansion affects the Organics tank:
- Base Expansion II: Sets the Organics tank size to 450 and expands the base.
- Base Expansion III: Sets the Organics tank size to 700 and increases the base size.
- Base Expansion IV: Sets the Organics tank size to 800 and expands your base.

How Long Does It Take To Increase the Base Size in The Alters?
Each Base Expansion research will take 14 hours of in-game time to complete. Also, keep in mind that you need to have a Scientist Alter of Jan to research these expansions. The scientist is one of the most useful Alters to have anyway for a myriad of reasons. So, make sure to unlock them as soon as you can.
