Vessels provide active abilities and passive buffs that aid in combat, and in this article, we are ranking them in Black Myth: Wukong.
Everything about Vessels in Black Myth: Wukong
Vessels are similar to the Spirit abilities in Black Myth: Wukong as they’re activated using Qi. Similarly to the Spirits, Vessels also have an active ability as well as a passive perk. The active ability is either a temporary bonus like granting immunity to Burn elemental damage. Whereas the passive perk usually is something related to the Destined One’s core stats. However, where the Vessels differ from the Spirits is that their active abilities usually last for a much longer duration. Furthermore, unlike Spirits, Vessels are tied to the game’s main story and have specific use cases against certain major bosses in Black Myth: Wukong.
That being said, Vessles are also useful outside of main story bosses. Certain Vessels like the Fireproof Mantle can help alleviate Burn build-up while traversing flame-covered terrain. Whereas the Plantain Fan can aid by staggering an elite enemy or even groups of regular enemies. Much like the Spirits, the Destined One can only equip a single active Vessel at a time. While you are free to switch to a different Vessel at any time, there’s a cooldown to be mindful of before using it. There are a total of 4 Vessels in Black Myth: Wukong that can be obtained either organically via the main story progression, or optional side quests.
Although all the Vessels have their specific use cases, some of them are objectively better than the others, in combat. The Fireproof Mantle, for instance, doesn’t offer any active combat ability, as such isn’t really useful outside of certain bosses. However, on the flip side, the Plantain Fan and Weaver’s Needle are useful against almost all boss and combat encounters. Furthermore, some of the Vessels just offer superior passive bonuses, like increased Stamina recovery, or Critical Damage. That said, here’s a look at the list of best Vessels ranked in Black Myth: Wukong.
Best Vessels in Black Myth: Wukong
The best Vessels in Black Myth: Wukong are the Plantain Fan and the Weaver’s Needle. Both the Plantain Fan as well as the Weaver’s Needle offer active abilities that deal a ton of damage to enemies (or stagger them). Furthermore, the passive buffs offered with these Vessels are incredibly useful during combat. Although the Fireproof Mantle and Wind Tamer are also good options, the abilities offered by those Vessels aren’t nearly as powerful as the Plantain Fan or the Weaver’s Needle. The Fireproof Mantle and Wind Tamer are useful in very limited combat or general gameplay scenarios, and specific boss fights in Black Myth: Wukong.
Whereas the Plantain Fan and Weaver’s Needle Vessels are useful in almost every other combat scenario. For instance, the Fireproof Mantle is incredibly useful in Chapter 5 – The Flaming Mountain, aiding in the traversal of the lava-covered terrain. However, outside of that chapter, the Vessel rarely has any use apart from a select few main story boss fights. On the flip side, the Plantain Fan and its ability to stagger enemies for a brief duration is useful in roughly every single combat scenario, even in New Game+. That’s not to say the Fireproof Mantle is a bad choice, but it’s not as useful as the Plantain Fan or other Vessels in the game.
Below is a ranking of all the Vessels in Black Myth: Wukong, from best to worst:
- Plantain Fan
- Weaver’s Needle
- Wind Tamer
- Fireproof Mantle
4) Fireproof Mantle
- Vessel: Fireproof Mantle
- Active ability: Grants Burn immunity and increased Focus build-up
- Passive perk: Increases immunity to Burn and Scroch damage from lava-covered terrain
- Rarity: Legendary
- Best use case: Against Flame-elemental bosses and traversing lava-covered terrain (Chapter 5)
- How to obtain: Obtained upon defeating Elder Jinchi in Ancient Guanyin Temple (Chapter 1)
The Fireproof Mantle is the very first Vessel you can obtain in Black Myth: Wukong. However, outside of Chapter 1’s (Black Wind Mountain) final boss – Black Bear Guai, and Chapter 5 (Flaming Mountain), it doesn’t have much use. The Fireproof Mantle essentially increases the Destined One’s Burn resistance. Furthermore, it also grants immunity to Burn (Scroch) damage from lava-covered terrain. Although the Mantle comes in incredibly handy for Chapter 5, outside of that, it doesn’t have any significant use. There are a few bosses like the Black Wind Guai, Flint Chief, Flint Vanguard, and the Feng-Tail General that do require the use of the Fireproof Mantle. However, outside of these encounters, the Vessel doesn’t have many use cases.
The Fireproof Mantle can be obtained upon defeating the Elder Jinchi, the secret optional boss in Chapter 1 (Black Wind Mountain). Elder Jinchi’s boss arena – Ancient Guanyin Temple can be accessed after ringing the three bells scattered across the chapter. It should be noted that the Fireproof Mantle is missable if you don’t pick it up before defeating the Black Bear Guai in Black Myth: Wukong.
3) Wind Tamer
- Vessel: Wind Tamer
- Active ability: Increases Damage Reduction and grants immunity to strong winds
- Passive perk: Slightly increases Damage Reduction
- Rarity: Legendary
- Best use case: Against bosses like Yellow Wind Sage and Kang-Jin Loong
- How to obtain: Obtained upon defeating Fuban in the Kingdom of Sahali (Chapter 2)
The Wind Tamer is roughly the same as the Fireproof Mantle, albeit with a much wider use case. The primary perk of the Wind Tamer is that it increases the Destined One’s Damage Reduction stat. Furthermore, when activated, the Wind Tamer creates a shockwave that knocks enemies and bosses back, staggering them for a very short duration. Additionally, the Vessel also grants temporary immunity to strong wind attacks, something very few bosses make use of. The Wind Tamer is most effective against bosses like the Yellow Wind Sage, Kang-Jin Loong, Kang-Jin Star, and Supreme Inspector. However, its effectiveness wears off quite fast, making the Vessel less useful than the Spirit abilities.
The Wind Tamer is obtained upon defeating Fuban the final boss of Chapter 2’s secret area – the Kingdom of Sahali. Unlike the Fireproof Mantle, the Wind Tamer isn’t missable and can be obtained even after completing the main story of Black Myth: Wukong.
2) Weaver’s Needle
- Vessel: Weaver’s Needle
- Active ability: Homes in on enemies and attacks them, for a long duration
- Passive perk: Increases Critical Hit Chance and Damage
- Rarity: Legendary
- Best use case: Against bosses like Hundred-Eyed Daoist Master, Cloudtreading Deer, and the Great Sage’s Broken Shell
- How to obtain: Obtained upon defeating the Duskveil in Purple Cloud Mountain (Chapter 4)
The Weaver’s Needle is a very powerful Vessel that not only deals damage to enemies but also grants a very useful passive bonus. The primary ability of the Weaver’s Needle is that it relentlessly targets enemies and attacks them. Additionally, it also increases the Critical Hit Chance and Damage attributes of the Destined One. Critical Hit Chance and Damage attributes regulate the amount of bonus damage dealt to enemies. Critical Hits are performed via Stance skills, see-throughs, or charged-heavy attacks. Having more Critical Chance translates to higher bonus damage, which means higher DPS based on the weapon equipped and its base damage.
Although the Weaver’s Needle doesn’t deal a ton of damage, it does make it easier to deal Critical attacks, with the light attack combos. The Weaver’s Needle is obtained upon defeating the Duskveil in Chapter 4’s secret area – Purple Cloud Mountain. Additionally, the Weaver’s Needle isn’t missable and can be obtained after completing the main story.
1) Plantain Fan
- Vessel: Plantain Fan
- Active ability: Summons a hurricane that staggers and knocks back enemies as well as bosses
- Passive perk: Increases Stamina recovery rate
- Rarity: Legendary
- Best use case: Against bosses like Supreme Inspector, Erlang, the Sacred Divinity, and the Great Sage’s Broken Shell
- How to obtain: Obtained upon defeating the Yaksha King (Chapter 5 – Flaming Mountains) and reaching Chapter 6 – Mount Huaguo
The Plantain Fan is easily the best Vessel in Black Myth: Wukong, due to both, its active ability as well as the passive perk. Activating the Plantain Fan unleashes a massive gust of wind and a tornado, which pushes enemies and bosses back. The tornado stays for a good few seconds and constantly keeps the enemy in a staggered state. While the active ability of this Vessel doesn’t deal any damage to enemies, staggering them allows the Destined One to use Spells like Cloud Step and Immobilize to get a good few hits in. Furthermore, the Vessel also increases the Stamina recovery rate significantly, making it easier to perform light attack combos and dodges, without having to wait for a long cooldown.
The Plantain Fan is also incredibly effective against some of the end-game bosses in Black Myth: Wukong like Erlang, the Sacred Divinity, the Great Sage’s Broken Shell, and the Supreme Inspector. The Plantain Fan is not a missable Vessel, and is obtained automatically upon defeating the Yaksha King and completing Chapter 5 – The Flaming Mountain.
