Popular YouTuber and content creator Mark “Markiplier” Fischbach is currently facing drama within his fanbase. On December 25, 2024, Mark removed the moderator status for several members from his subreddit r/markiplier. In a post on the subreddit titled “Happy New Year. Prepare to be purged,” Mark enforces certain rules for the members to follow. Some of the rules included “respecting the message” and keeping the members-only content within the members. In the post, he stated:

“I will be bringing on new moderators to help enforce these rules as well as reinforcing the most important rule on the list of rules. You know which one I mean. And if you don’t, you will suffer the consequences of your ignorance.”

The sudden enforcement of rules surprised users, leading them to question Mark’s decision. A former moderator came forward and expressed their disappointment at the sudden removal of their status. In a comment, u/bravelittletoaster87 stated:

“Mark, I spent multiple years as a moderator. In particular as the head mod. I can’t express how disappointed it makes me that you didn’t care enough to reach out…I have poured my blood, sweat, and tears into this place for 4-5 years.”

Mark has also announced that he will be bringing on new moderators to help enforce the rules. He warned that members who failed the so-called “purity test” would face an “IRL permanent ban.” While some users praised the decision, noting that it merely enforced existing rules, others expressed concern. However, Mark has responded to many members calling him out.

Markiplier Responds to the Drama

To various members calling out the YouTuber over certain rules, Mark replied with an explanation. A reddit user called out Mark over his control of the subreddit. The user even labeled Mark as “hubristic.” To which Mark responded in two separate posts. Mark mentioned that he never saw the moderators trying to contact him and that he simply saw the inactive symbol next to their name.

Markiplier cited the holiday season for not bringing in new moderators sooner. He addressed the backlash over membership and paid content, explaining that memberships fund most of the larger projects on his channel, including ‘Edge of Sleep.’
