Items outside the preference list still offer points, but in much smaller amounts, only 6 each time. If the character is skilled in two categories, your points are split between them. The split doesn’t reduce your total reward; it just spreads the benefit. You also start receiving affinity points after your first playthrough. A preferred gift will always add 5 affinity points.
