The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered, which was released earlier this year for PS5, now finally has a PC release date. Although PlayStation and Naughty Dog did not announce a confirmed release date, the remaster is scheduled to arrive later in 2025. This is understandable considering PlayStation already has another PC title coming early next year, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2.

Surprisingly enough, the PC port of The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered is not being developed by Iron Galaxy. For those unaware, Iron Galaxy was the studio behind The Last of Us Part 1’s PC port. Unfortunately, despite the game’s excellence, the PC port was far from perfect, touted by many as one of the worst PC releases of 2023.

Here’s everything you need to know about The Last of Us Part 2’s PC port, including the pre-order bonuses listed on Steam, platforms, and more.

When Is the Last of Us Part 2 Remastered Coming to PC

As of writing this article, PlayStation Studios and Naughty Dog have not revealed any confirmed release date for The Last of Us Part 2’s PC port. However, the game is expected to arrive in 2025, following the release of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2.

Furthermore, the game’s store page on Steam and Epic Games Store went live shortly after the announcement. The Last of Us Part 2’s PC port also comes with the pre-order bonuses that were originally available for the game’s PS4 release. The pre-order bundle includes the Ammo Capacity Upgrade and Crafting Training Manual. The Ammo Capacity Upgrade essentially lets you upgrade one of Ellie’s weapons early.

However, it should be noted that the contents included in the pre-order bonus can also be obtained later via gameplay. Surprisingly enough, there is no Deluxe Edition bundle for the game, which was the case for the last two PlayStation PC titles, i.e., God of War Ragnarok and the upcoming Marvel’s Spider-Man 2.

Apart from the pre-order details, PlayStation also confirmed that the PC version will come bundled with the No Return mode. No Return is basically a roguelike mode, separate from the base game. No Return is somewhat similar to God of War Ragnarok’s Valhalla expansion, albeit without any story attached to it.

The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered PC Developers

Surprisingly enough, The Last of Us Part 2’s PC port isn’t developed by Iron Galaxy. Instead, the port is being helmed by Nixxes Software, which has a pretty impressive track record of PC releases. Furthermore, Nixxes is the primary studio that develops most of the PlayStation first-party PC titles. PC ports for titles like Marvel’s Spider-Man, Horizon Forbidden West, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, etc., are all handled by Nixxes.

It’s also understandable why Naughty Dog chose to partner with Nixxes instead of Iron Galaxy for the sequel. Despite The Last of Us Part 1 being a pretty impressive game on PS5, it was far from perfect when it was originally released on PC.

The Last of Us Part 1 also took a rather lengthy post-launch patch cycle to become playable on PC. As such, it’s possibly something PlayStation plans to avoid with the upcoming PC release of the sequel.

Furthermore, unlike Iron Galaxy, Nixxes Software is a PlayStation-owned studio and hence is usually the primary choice for most PC ports. Nixxes Software is the studio behind most of PlayStation’s first-party PC ports. The only exceptions are God of War Ragnarok, Helldivers 2, Returnal, Until Dawn, and Days Gone.

Does the Last of Us Part 2 Remastered Require a PlayStation Account on PC

The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered, much like the recent slate of PC releases from PlayStation, does require a PlayStation (PSN) account on PC. This is confirmed by the game’s Steam page listing where a PSN account is mentioned as a mandatory requirement. Furthermore, the game also supports PlayStation Overlay on Steam, meaning you can carry over your trophy progress from the PS5 version to PC.

However, you cannot transfer your game progress from the PS5 version to PC. More details about the PC port will be revealed close to its official release date.
